Samurai Cop Tab

After I found out this was played in standard tuning (he apparently has a new electric that looks a lot like his Jerry Jones Baritone), I was able to tab this song.

If anyone here have corrections, feel free to chime in.

I tabbed it out as all of his fingers going down in the intro/verse. Dave and his stretches....

I went back and triple checked the video, and I have to disagree with your verse and chorus tabs. I only see Dave fretting up to 3 strings in main verse progression. His middle finger is constantly raised to be ready for fretting the 4th fret on the low E, and he lifts his pinky after he plays the two notes on the B string.

Also, his middle finger is lifted on the F#m Chord, making it only possible to fret a power chord of 244xxx and not 2442xx.

Here's the video I have been studying: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ckkIwsZ99M

I admit that all i watched from the video when i tabbed it was the first minute, and it looked to me that he's fretting his middle finger in the verse. Whether it's "exactly" how Dave plays it (which I guess is what you're concerned with?), I think it sounds better that way. More full sound.

It's definitely a fuller sound, and to be honest, it sounds better. I again thought the same, and originally tabbed it much closer to what you had for the verse. I then started to double and triple check, and that's when I discovered he doesn't fret the middle finger. Even after I read your tab, I thought, "shit maybe I was wrong," and checked the video again. Even after I posted my thoughts on your correction, I checked it again (just to be sure I wasn't being a dumbass :P ).

Also, after fooling around with the tune, the chorus is all major chords, so if he did use his middle finger for the choruses (which I still don't think he does), it would be E, F#, and B.

Here is a tutorial that I made for the song. Purists probably won't like it because I use a different tuning, but if you are like me and care about the comfort of your left wrist, then you will like it.

Yeah, yours is definitely easier on the hand. I'll try to get a tab of yours up later today.

The thing is, I can definitely hear the F# note on the D string, and since I know he isn't fretting with the middle finger (except for the low E), I don't think he frets the G string during the progression.

I'm sorry if I am sounding like a dick about my claims on how my tab is how Dave plays it. However, the more and more I look, I truely do believe that this is how he does it. I am checking videos and playing these claims, but they just don't seem to mesh or sound right, or look right from what I see Dave doing.

So, again, sorry if I am sounding like a Dick, I don't mean to.

You're not sounding like a dick dude, I appreciate the time you're taking to get a tab the way Dave is playing it That's awesome After watching the video I am not sure I'm right, that's just how I've been playing it.

Ok, I may have to backtrack on my claim. I think I may be getting what Tim is playing confused with what Dave is playing. I'm starting to think I may hear a higher B note ringing during the verse, but I also swear I hear the F# as well. I know for certain he is not fretting with the Middle finger, which means he is fretting either the D or G string and not both. So, either Tim is playing something that is crossing into what Dave is playing, or I am hearing things wrong because I am using an acoustic (could just be how the B note on the A string sounds on the electric). I think I'm going to need to test this out with an electric later to determine exactly what he is doing.

The chorus is right, though, and so is the bridge. That I am 100% sure of. I just checked it again, and it's clear as day to see what Dave is fretting.

I've relentlessly reviewed video from all of the shows so far, using different angles etc, to try to nail this down.

In regards to the discussion so far in this thread, I can assuredly say his finger is down on the G string and not the D string. However, there are parts at the Woodlands show where his middle finger is no longer floating above the fretboard like the other versions, making it appear that he has all fingers down on both the G AND D string in this version (an insane finger stretch). As Samurai gets played a few more times we'll see where his fingers end up. At this point I'm comfortable putting a (currently) "final" tab up on the site.

I almost lost my mind for a few minutes trying to figure out what the hell kind of bush league tuning he gave the baritone. I mean I really got carried away, very interesting choice by Dave, I do like the sound of this guitar in standard tuning, it has a very dirty sound that sisters the Jones nicely.

I was just going to post my now corrected tab, but it's nearly identical to yours (with only cosmetic differences). So, I see there is no need to post that now.

Yes, I was wrong about the G and D strings. He doesn't fret the D, he frets the G. I don't know where I was hearing that F# note, but it was not from Dave. Stupid me.

    you guys => <= me

So yeah, your tab is perfect.

I plan on covering this solo acoustic at gigs/open mics, for anyone doing the same this approach to the chorus will give it some more balls.

You took an early stab at it without the luxury of several useful videos and got it mostly right. Well done.

I'm just not hearing that, the chorus begins and ends with E major.

The full chords are E, F, and B. All major chords. Dave plays just power chords, but they are rooted in those major chords.

Did anyone hear the acoustic version he did? It sounded like he was playing the same chords as So Damn Lucky during the bridge. However, I watched his hands on Friday in Mansfield and it looked like he stuck with the standard E & A chords.

I noticed he did the same SDL type bridge riff for the Holmdel/Bangor shows but not this past weekend.

Yup looks like he's going back and forth on how he plays the bridge, between SDL like chords and regular E & A.
