Standup was right. Short for charisma.

Been off the apps since January. Very little desire to get back in there and take more cracks at the plate. Just such a tiresome hamster wheel. But if I don't go that route, it's a next to 0% chance I'll meet someone. Stopped drinking this year and I basically never go out unless I've got a show or are meeting up with friends.

Work schedule is insane and I've also got Bonnaroo in June and a buddy's Wedding in July. My mom and I are eyeing a trip in September as well.

Just like with my Redlegs, there's always next year.

    Re: Dating is miserable

I’m on a dating app but I don’t spend much time on it. I do have an incredibly strange relationship with my neighbor though.
She had a boyfriend for years..then I didn’t see him around. After a few months I just knocked on her door, asked if she had a boyfriend. She said no..I asked if she’d like to go out sometime. She said yes. She told me she’s not interested in anyone though, I told her I’m not interested in anyone either. That was a year ago. Since our first “date” we’ve gone out every weekend, spent every holiday together. Thanksgiving just us at a nice restaurant. Christmas at her place with my kids. I get annual passes for Busch Gardens…we go there at least once a month…SeaWorld…ect. She’s meeting my mother next month and going to dinner with us. Going to Universal Studios in May with her and her daughter…so strange but I like it.
There is no commitment but we take care of each other. Saw her Friday,Saturday and Sunday last weekend…a little much for me..that’s when it’s nice to drop back and remember I’m single….or am I? She knows my kids..I’ve met her daughter all that is good. Was going to go to the St.Pete Grand Prix…she said she was burnt out on work and needed a day to relax…but definitely next year! So she’s planning on us still doing what we do.
That being said…she’s 14 years younger than me..body of a gymnast. I just roll with it. Sure I get a lot of looks..kinda girl you cannot notice. I guess there’s something she likes about me.

I've started dating someone. We'd been seeing each other since November but became exclusive in the past month or so. It feels weird to move on from my last relationship. She's good people and has a wonderful dog. It's nice to have some stability with a good human.

I figured you would have mentioned it in your post, but I am assuming this has been totally platonic so far? You haven't slept with her at all?

Either way it sounds like a really nice relationship and I hope it keeps going good for you. I would love to have a super close woman friend who lived nearby, even if it was 100% platonic.

100% platonic. I’m open to dating other women but they would have to understand that I do hangout with another woman…not sure many women would like that.

Jealousy/insecurity red flag for any woman who has problem with it, so long as you're upfront about it from the beginning. I'd like to think that a lot of women would see that your ability to have a long term platonic relationship with the opposite sex as a green flag. I would also suspect that they'd be more accommodating to it though, knowing that she's your neighbor.

Not that Reddit is necessarily a great sampling...but the green flag theory is overwhelmingly checking out going by this thread.

That is fantastic! They are a great breed and really smart! I have a F1 Goldendoodle that is 50% standard poodle (meaning he is big)! I love the poodle breed at this point as a result!

I will chime in here! I have a few people that I consider "best friends." That said, my closest "best friend" right now is female. Her and I met over 10 years ago when we both went back to school for engineering, and both were at the time switching from healthcare. Being non-traditional students coming from a similar background brought us close together quickly.

Yes, we had one moment of escalation to sexual tension about 10 years ago that resulted in us expressing that one drunken night. However, we both quickly realized the next day that we didn't really work in that way. Once that happened and the conversation was had, we never looked back at just becoming great friends. I have to say, it has been one of the most important and rewarding friendships of my life ever since.

We stayed friends throughout engineering school. I helped her decide on making the best decision for her first job out of school; she was considering taking a worse job to stay with her jealous boyfriend in NJ rather than taking a role with a top pharma company and moving to Germany. Luckily, she went to Germany, traveled all over Europe and eventually met her now husband. She was there for me when I got married. When the pandemic hit and my role in NYC dried up as a result, she helped land me my role now in North Carolina at that same top pharma company. That role basically resurrected my engineering career and has set up my career. We even got to work together for about a year on the same project. Eventually, I was a bridesman in her wedding and got really close with her husband who I regularly hang out with. Now, her husband and I work together on the same project too.

It is wild seeing how much each of us have grown over the years. It is also nice to hear her call me her "best friend." Luckily, the wife gets along well with her and her husband too!

Having a female best friend can happen, although I do think it is rare and might not work if one or both have feelings or sexual tension. Luckily for me, that tension was released early on and allowed us to move forward with just friendship.

We did make one of those “if we aren’t married by X age” pacts

I remember my sister in law was like “wow you don’t care that he has a female best friend” and my wife was like ahh no?

But same I’m friends with her husband we hang solo, she hangs out with my wife without me sometimes. It’s nice

    Nice!

Yeah, my F1 was bred with a standard poodle and is now 85lbs just over 2 years old .

We also have a Rough Collie who will turn 2 years old in June. He is 65lbs right now!

I def have a platonic friend I used to work with - she's great - I know her husband - he's a good dude too - we haven't worked together in ten years, but we still get drinks periodically just to catch up.
