Standing Rock Action Needed to Help

If you want to help the people at standing rock here is real action that you can take to help your brothers and sisters in peaceful protests. It only takes a little of your time.

Heidi's office is feeling the pressure from our phone calls. She is issuing a statement, but I urged the office to do something NOW and told the office that we are watching. The phone calls are making a difference.

Listen, if you cannot be there...take 5 minutes and leave messages with these people. This is ACTION we can take to support our brothers and sisters at Standing Rock.

If you don't know what to say, try something like: We are watching the atrocities that are happening to the peaceful protestors at Standing Rock. These people are exercising their first amendment right to protest peacefully and are being shot at with rubber bullets, water blasts and sound grenades. This is all being documented by the people. We urge you to take action now.

If you ignore someone does that mean they can still post in your thread but you can't see them but others can? JCC makes a compelling argument - this is one of the major reasons I don't post here anymore, hostile environment. I'd like to block him from ever reading my posts or replying to them.

In all seriousness, though, I've got way bigger fish to fry than caring about a pipeline cutting over a small corner of a native reserve. From what I've read, the company originally wanted to run the pipeline north of Bismark but that route was rejected by the army engineers. If anyone should be the subject of protest, it should be the army for rejecting the original route.

I can understand why they're upset because of burial grounds and all that, but it just doesn't move the needle for me. Sorry?

The company originally wanted to run the pipeline well north of the reserve, but that was rejected by the army corps engineers due to concerns over water contamination for the city of Bismarck.

I get that. But they can respect these people's concerns as well then. Not to mention, digging through a burial ground.


The abuse these protestors are taking is pretty fucked up as well. Water cannoning them in 25 degree weather, then they come out and say they were only using it to put out fires, despite it being on video of them blasting people with it.

So it's ok to contaminate the water supply of native americans instead?

Not directing that at you specifically... just asking the question. Seems like they have a legit beef if the original plan was scrapped due to fears of water contamination.

No worries. I mean, it comes down to societal interests at a certain point. I obviously feel sympathy for the people who will be affected by it. I certainly would not want something of significance to me/my people to be damaged in a similar scenario. That being said (and this is not necessarily my view, just laying the arguments out), the company tried to avoid this by putting the pipeline well north of the reservation. That proposal was shut down. From my understanding, they'd already started construction on the pipeline. The pipeline will pump 450k of crude oil per day. It's obviously very economically beneficial to the country at large. Given no other option, they have to go through the reservation to connect the pipeline. Something has to give. Do we as a society benefit more from preserving a very small portion of that particular native reservation, or from connecting the pipeline and providing large amounts of oil/gas to the country for years to come? That's the crux of the issue.

The protesters are voluntarily there. The water cannons are on big fucking trucks. I'm positive there were warned plenty of times what would happen if they didn't back off. Instead of putting lotion on the skin, they moved vehicles and tried to break through the police line.

You are absolutely right. It's very annoying that this guy can even view this thread or post after I ignored him. The function is worthless and doesn't help the community in the slightest. Joe and the fellas should rethink this one - might help to bring about a better overall experience on the boards.

I've never ignored anyone on the boards before.

But seriously folks take a moment from surfing and help some people out. It means more to them than it does to you - consider it in the spirit of being thankful and sharing gratitude.

If every user had the ability to block other users from posting in threads because they were annoying, there would be no one posting on Ants.

I heard that the Rolling Rock people have allowed pipelines to go through in the past in exchange for money. This new pipeline comes near their land but doesn't touch it, so they were offered no money. Now they are protesting.

I don't know if that's true, but if it is true then it's not a good look. Makes me think there are no good guys in this conflict, as usual.

thank you OP for posting this. I had a hard time enjoying thanksgiving this year knowing this was going on. I had a couple friends drive up from CO a few weeks ago to hand out supplies to protestors. horrible what is happening to the people in Standing Rock, but good will always prevail.

yeah i tried to block him as well. would love a function on this site that makes people like jeepdick invisible to people that don't want to see his posts.
