Girlfriend just got me two tickets for my bday! Will be my first Irvine show, and her first DMB show period. I was expecting to go to Gorge this year and it didn't work out so I didn't do the presale (big mistake). Ticket prices way inflated, was nervous I was going to miss the tour for the first time since 1999!

Anyway, very happy, cheers, y'all, see you in a week!!!!

You're best biting the (silver) bullet and buying drinks inside (or drinking really early inside your car in the parking lot) if you don't want to miss any of the show.

Here's another piece of news: Robert Randolph is playing a gig at the Coach House in Capistrano the same night. Considering that it is literally just down the freeway, any chances we get him to come over for a guest spot early in the night?
What is the reasoning for this? Will be making the trip to see my first west coast Dave show. Just crazy lines?

Yes. It is possibly the worst venue in the world to get in and out of. I haven't been to every venue in the world, but I can't imagine one worse. One way in and one way out (same door).

Last year, the line to get in stretched nearly to the end of the parking lot and wrapped back around. All hell broke loose when the line folded in on itself. People. were. not. happy. There was one poor guy there to try and manage it all. Poor guy gave up pretty quickly.

One plus side... you have at least an hour and a half to sober up between the time the lights go down and when you actually start moving your car toward the exit.

This was my home venue for over 15 years until I moved out east. Echo the sentiments about the hike to and from the venue, along with the police in the lots. Also expect long lines for the bathrooms in the main area. If you are on the far side of the venue, there is a concession stand down stage left that will have shorter lines. Upside to having to walk even father to get your seats. There was mention of heading in really early and I concur. Expect to start heading in around 6, if not a little earlier. Cuts into tailgating, but you have to prepare or you will miss the entire acoustic set.

Not sure how traffic is getting out these days, but we used to post-game after the show to let traffic die down. I recall some shows taking an hour plus to get out. VIP parking is well worth the cost if you are looking to get out quick after the show.

Bottom line have fun and don't let the LA people drag down the show.

Correction to my previous post, about the location of the bathroom on the far side of the venue. The location of the far bathroom is stage right (Boyd's side of the stage during the main set). Sorry for any confusion.

C'mon Adam you know the LA people I am talking about. The ones that go to any concert and sit the entire show regardless of the songs or artist. This ain't the LA Phil, get up.

Is the OC surf bro culture getting worse? The east college fraternity bro culture on the east coast is crazy. N2 at SPAC is unreal and I have yet to experience Hartford but I heard that is worse. Between the Dirt People of the 909 and the Frat Bros of the east coast, I think, think, I would take the Dirt People.

If you are in Orch 3, Loge 7 or 8, and Terrace 13 or 14, this bathroom is just down the stairs. There are concessions too so you can quickly get food and drinks.

    Hi all,

I'm a San Diegan and have been to Irvine Meadows a few times in the distant past and have some questions.

What time do the gates open for parking?

Is the VIP parking worth it to get out? What does that cost? Have to drive back down to SD!

What's the parking lot port-a-john situation like? In Chula there's barely any and it's terrible!

Thanks and I'm sure I'll have some more questions!

If you are trying to leave the show to get to SD, you have to pay for VIP unless you want to get home at 2am. The port a johns are sparse and are about 30 people deep for the lines by 5pm. As I and others have stated above, get there early early early and head in before 6pm when the line gets infuriating. If you don't start heading in by 6, you will miss the acoustic set.

They are hard on open alcohol in the lot so bring solo cups if that is your thing.

I'm sure VIP is prob like $20? $25?

I think the walk to get in probably totals about 1/2 mile. Be prepared for that.

Thanks for the info. I too am coming from San Diego, but got a hotel that night. Was also wondering what time the gates to the lot open, what's the earliest I could get there and park?

So tailgating is still a no go at this venue? I haven't been there since 2010, and I remember getting harassed over it.

I wish they were playing the bowl instead of Irvine this year. This is a terrible venue. They're demolishing it in 2017.

I wonder where the band will play in so. cal? I'm surprised L.A. isn't on the tour ticket. Would be a good show for the bowl or the greek. I grew up at this venue as well. It used to be called Irvine meadows and the safari park was behind it.

I usually volunteer for this show. They do allow tailgating - just bring cups, etc... I can't guarantee that they allow grills but picnics shouldn't be a problem. People set up chairs, drink wine, listen to their music. It hasn't been a problem before.
