Bought a sample of Magic Hat beers. Pretty disappointing.

Yeah, the one I had was 2008. That was all they had at the Green's on Ponce in Atlanta.

On New Years I had Ommegang Chocolate Indulgence and was very disappointed. For a beer called "Chocolate Indulgence" you'd think there'd be a bit more chocolate in it! It's malty, but not much going on in this one at all. It finishes good, but is meh upfront and in the middle. It's no Southern Tier Choklat, that's for sure.

Drinking a Bear Republic Racer 5 IPA right now. Yum!

I've got a huge bottle of Corsendonk Christmas Ale that my "Godson got me", he's almost 6 now. He must have had a pretty good fake. Can't wait to pop that one open. As well as the Koningshoven Quadruppel and Rocheforte 10. Waiting for the right time....

I agree wholeheartedly about the Ommegang Chocolate Indulgence. It was a big letdown for me too, mainly because it just didn't have the chocolatey finish that I expected it to have. Tonight was a good night though. I had a Dogfish 60 min on tap at Buffalo Bill's Wild Wings and later at a friend's house, I enjoyed a Rochefort 10 and a Allagash Curieux. The 10 never disappoints, but the big surprise of the night was how delicious the Curiuex was. Allagash has always been hit or miss with me. I love their Dubbel and Quad, but disliked their Belgian Black Stout. The Curieux is a whole different monster though. It is an ale aged in bourbon oak barrels and the bottle that I bought was a 2008 vintage to boot!!! Really complex flavors out of this beer and for the hefty price tag (17 bucks for a 750 ml), it delivered and was certainly worth the money!!! Still have a Flying Fish Exit 1 Oyster Stout to check out soon, which should be interesting to say the least!!!

Not brewed with any fish, but there are a small amount of oysters that are thrown into the kettle during the boil. This is not a new technique though, as traditional English Stouts were often brewed with oysters during the 1800's. It adds more to the body of the brew than the flavor, making the body creamier. Here are a couple of links on BA that you should check out. The brewery is in New Jersey, and to my knowledge, doesn't distribute outside the East Coast. We are long overdue for a trade though my friend!! PM me anytime you are trying to hook something up!

That's a damn good quad. Had it when a buddy visited last month.

Also had their regular Trappist ale and it was very good as well. Probably a dubbel, but the label didn't say anything but Trappist Ale.

Hmmm...sounds interesting to say the least. How do you trade? I know I've seen you guys in here talking about trading stuff. Random package mailing?

Hmmm...not sure. I've had their Dubbel & Tripel as well, and both said so on the label. But I've noticed through google image searches that they've had a lot of different looking labels. And they've also been labeled as "La Trappe" instead of Koninghoeven.

An example, mine looks like this:
    http://beerblog.genx40.com/file/kht1.JPG

    However, check out this:
    http://beeradvocate.com/im/beers/658.jpg

Then, we also have other labels. Like:

    http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3181/...212d99c9fa.jpg

I'm guessing this could be yours?:

    http://beerez.com/wp-content/plugins...ven-isidor.png

The story behind this, I know not. Just that Koningshoeven's status as a true Trappist Brewery has been challenged over the years. I'm assuming there could be some kind of timeline for when these labels were used and want kind of vintage we're looking at?

This thread is a bit over my head but as far as my 19 year old ass is concerned my favorite beers are Rolling Rock, Budweiser, and Heineken. I also enjoy Magic Hat #9 and Coors light...yeah.

The Magic Hat Fall Odd Notion was one of my favorites that I've had this year. The Winter one tasted like rotting feet. It was disappointing, to say the least. Number 9 is always reliable though.

Mountain Creek. It's 5.5%, it's cheaper than everything ($2.59/sixer) and it tastes legitimately good. It's all I drink when I go cheap these days.

That looks/sounds too good to be true. They don't seem to sell it in Upstate NY though, which really pisses me off.

I was in Florida for New Years, drank my weight in Yuenglings.... mmmmm. Hadn't had any for a few years. Still the best plain ol' beer I've ever had.

It got a D+ rating on beeradvocate. I'm not too hopeful. Here's a glowing review:

    Quote:
Didn't want to get into my beer, so I took one of my brother's. It honestly looks like it was scooped out of the toilet. Pale yellow with big frothy piss bubbles. It turns to something resembling water with a drop of yellow food coloring put in it. The smell is hardly even there. A hint of grain with a metallic tinge. Taste is nearly identical. Metallic, with flavors cheap grain and sweat. Mouthfeel is pretty bad. It is light, but the aftertaste sticks around, causing a constant gag reflex. Drinkability? NO! The first sip and I had to give it to someone else. They wouldn't even drink it. I'm sure it got poured down the drain after it was passed around to a few people.

Yeah I know Beefy. I think they're all crazy. When compared to Miller Lite, Bud Light, the cheaper beers, etc....this beer has actual flavor. My dad, who's been doing the beer thing for about 30 years now, introduced it to me. The only other cheap beer that he'll drink is High Life out of bottles.

Some people are crazy. It's good to anyone who doesn't have an agenda.

People say that about Yuengling too, and it still sucks. Not just because I enjoy craft beers, but because it actually little to no redeeming qualities. I've never had Mountain Creek before, I'm pretty sure they don't distribute here so I'll reserve judgment, but it looks awful.

I think I'm gonna go to the beer store today and get something decent. I'm usually a wine guy, so I don't know much about beer. But now that I know enough about wine to impress da bitchez, I want to learn about beer. Then I can impress tha doodz. Any suggestions?

I went into it with a laughing smile ready to spit it out...and was pleasantly surprised. I don't judge something based off of what other people tell me. I give everything a fair shake.

I've never had Yuengling, but my dad says that it sucks and couldn't understand why it gets so much praise out there on the East Coast.

    What are you looking for?

Something thick and malty? Light and refreshing? Bold and hoppy? Experimentally out there?

Name off some of your favorite beers you've come across thus far over the years. That'll help.

I am not a huge fan of Yuengling, but when I go to a bar and am faced with the choice of Yuengling, Bud Light, Coors Light, and Miller Light, I will choose Yuengling every time. Luckily, it seems that most bars around here are starting to serve at least Dogfish 60 min and perhaps a Clipper City offering on tap. Otherwise, most bars will also have Boston Lager on tap. Yuengling is not too bad on tap, and while it is no Brooklyn Lager, I find it a mediocre beer at best when there is no other options.
