This will probably be the first year Castro gets any real instruction.

Keep in mind Quade, Riggins, and most people inside the Cubs had zero idea Carlos Marmol was throwing a fastball cutter last year. One of the first things Sveum brought up is they went over his tape last year, and besides fixing his mechanics they want him to stop throwing that pitch. We've had very incompetent people running the Cubs. Both front office and manager wise.

Really? I would take the Red Sox, Rays, and Angels over the Jays. They are just not consistent and they don't have the pitching.
Although if they do add the second wild card they could have a small chance of squeezing in there.

I could see any of the Giants, D Backs, or Rockies winning the NL West same goes with the AL East (Rays, Yankees, Red Sox) and NL East (Phillies, Nationals, Braves)

surprise/sleeper team, i'd say the jays, but it'll be really tough to beat out the sox, yanks, and rays in that division.

i would be more worried about the rays if they had any offense.

I'll agree that long term the Fielder contract is going to be awful. Our owner is 86 years old though and doesn't care about years 6-10. He wants to win while he's alive, and if we win a WS and this sets us back after that, I don't give a shit, honestly.

The difference is that fielder plays more than 60 innings a year at a position that actually matters.

Right, but the Paps contract isn't going to cripple them down the road. Prince could. If Illitch dies before Miggy gets extended, I think we let him walk and I'd rather have half of Miggy than a full Prince. I just hope Pizza!Pizza! inks Miggy to an extension before he kicks.

What's the common concensus on the added WC, given it happens this year (I don't think it's done, correct me if I'm wrong)??

I, personally, don't mind it. There will be exciting races for playoff spots regardless.

That's fair--I was looking at it from the point of view that Fielder has a chance to live up to that deal for a couple of years. There is no chance Papelbon will ever be worth that much money.

Is he still a closer? OK then, there's still no chance he'll ever be worth 12.5 million a year.

right...i agree with you. just voicing my opinion that pap looked great last year.

how do you think it'd go over in boston if our DH made 14.65, 4th starting pitcher (on the DL) made 15.25, crawford making 19.5, and closer making 12.5?

as much as i hate seeing pap go, i am happy with the way Ben handled the red sox bullpen situation going into next season

Yes, definitely. If a closer hits FA, he should be gone. With the new CBA, i'd probably even non-tender in 3rd or even 2nd arb years.

What's everyone's consensus on it being just over a month and no decision on Ryan Braun has been made public? I think it's very interesting nothing has happened yet.

i havent heard much of this, but there's been over 30 MLB players to test positive since 05 and not one case has been overturned.

I'm fully aware of the history, but has a decision ever taken this long? Obviously I'm rooting for him to be cleared, but it seems the longer this takes the more favorable it is to Braun. I'm just wondering what others think, this story kind of has fallen to the wayside. Unfortunately, no one should have even known anything until his appeal process was complete. Huge breach of confidentiality.

i hope we find out the truth. NL MVP testing positive for PED's during his MVP season doesn't look good, but again it is taking a while to figure this out. i have no clue how it'll turn out.

i hope for your sake it turns out well though...you guys already lost a big chunk of offense out of your lineup.

Well it's already been said it's not a PED, but a banned substance that caused an abnormal spike of T levels.

I just think it's an interesting case. I would love to have him completely absolved, but I'm not counting on it happening. However, I do think it's interesting that it's been 30+ days and no announcement has been made. For a 3 person panel that's basically a 1 man vote deciding things, why is it taking so long?

I think you're letting your brewers' fandom cloud your thinking a little bit. What exactly do you think a huge spike in testosterone does to your ability to perform tasks such as lift weights or recover from injury?

Did you see where I said I don't think he's going to have it overturned? I'm not saying he's innocent, but I'm not going to say he's guilty just yet either. I do however think it's an interesting a decision is taking this long and feel it benefits him more than hurts him. That's all.

And I don't think anyone can disagree that the story should not have come out until his appeal process was completed. Every other player has had confidentiality in this process until the appeal was completed and Braun hasn't.

Uhhh, no. You said you hope that he gets it overturned but you "aren't counting on it." Then you started to give a few factors that you think mean it will be overturned.

How is not counting on it any different than thinking it won't happen?

Regardless, I wanted to see if anyone else had any opinions on the matter other than "He will be suspended".

I'm also interested to see if people think he's had a fair handling of the matter. Does everyone think it was right to announce it before he had has appeal?
