Yeah, I couldn't agree more. I'm really confused as to what they were trying to prove with this album. Don't get me wrong, there are a few songs I really do like ("Heavy Is the Head", "Castaway", "One Day"), but there is absolutely no flow to this album at all. I was really hopeful for this album considering how awesome The Grohl Sessions, pt. 1 was, but they seemed to, for the most part, abandon that style. I still thing Grohl Sessions is the best stuff they've ever released.
Really hope they reexamine what makes them great during their next studio effort. All the poppy stuff on this album is absolutely awful. The first song honestly sounds like something Katy Perry or Justin Bieber would release. I get wanting to be different, especially since ZB has openly criticized other country artists for pandering too much to the pop sound, but this was a big step back, IMO. They should stick to their more country roots and keep sprinkling in the island-flavored stuff as well ("Jump Right In", "Where the Boat Leaves From", "Island Song", "Settle Me Down", etc. are all some of my favorites).
