Re: *** Official Irvine 2015***

I thought Herbie was great... Added some freshness to songs I wouldn't normally care for...

I also thought that it was a solid show.. Crowd and Venue were horrible(per usual)... Soooo many talkers sitters and ppl on their phone

Irvine Co seems destined to tear it down and continue the homogenization of Southern California.

I always wanted 2 nights at Chula and ditch Irvine. There is no curfew at Chula, I think fans would flock to San Diego for two shows, c'mon it is San Diego in the summer time, plus the tailgate in Chula is way better then Irvine. The Forum is an interesting call as I hear that they have turned that into a concert venue with no sports going on. You still have Staples (which has gotten 2 nights in the summer in past years), Hollywood Bowl or the Greek as options as well. I enjoyed the shows at Home Depot Center (now StubHub Center) but seems withy Galaxy being the main tenant the days of shows there are over.

Bottom line, will make the tour announcement next year that much more interesting.
The land lease expires in 2017. We probably have one or two more shows at Irvine before all is said and done.

Herbie was really fun on WWYS, but I thought his sound was pretty jacked on Spaceman.

Overall a pretty fun show though. The pit is pretty low. We were row H in the 100's and it was a perfect view.

we went to The Gorge x3, Shoreline and Irvine this year was tons of fun band played solid, worst crowd was Irvine.

Herbie was just Okay for me at some spots he sounded way off but Carter kept it alive with this change up's and breakdowns.

overall was a good show and we were happy to be there.
Yeah, there isn't really much you can do about the crowds out here, just have to go with the flow and enjoy the show as best as possible.

LA people: Rashawn is supposedly sitting in with a performance at Spaghettini in Beverly Hills tomorrow (9/15). Not sure the time but scrolling their FB page most performances are around 10pm and always free. Seems they only announce on the day of so check it out tomorrow for more information:

Apparently someone was taping down in ORCH 1 along the rails near the stairs.

I thought I also saw a taper stand in the Terrace section on the side but I could be wrong. Irvine always has multiple tapers, so I'd hold out hope.

After the electric set Carter invited a young girl up to the front of the stage and spoke with her for a few moments - I tweeted it, then out of nowhere her dad replied and told more about the exchange. Another neat story about the band and the quality of people:

The first song with Herbie was great but after that I thought he started to take away from the flow. On the upside after three times at Irvine I was fimally amongst real fans who were friendly and got up and danced.

I believe the Forum is the same management as MSG and has an agreement that acts that play MSG have to play at least one show at the Forum (if the management team wants them to that is).

For the causals, it was wasted on them. And that's also what is frustrating about this band - they won't bring it at the Gorge always, but then randomly in Irvine, they'll kick ass. There really is no predictability to any of it.

I think this was the last show for them at Irvine because they're tearing it down soon. I'm curious what management does next to cover the southern California area. They could just go back to Sleep Train in San Diego, or maybe they start doing the Forum, like so many other big name acts, although that is not outdoors. It's an interesting conundrum management will face next summer.
I'm pretty sure Irvine will still be around next year. After that however it does get interesting. I'd like to see them skip LA entirely and play Santa Barbara bowl and 2 at Chula Vista. SB would be small but such a cool venue and would weed out some of the worst of the LA types.

Looks like next concert season is the last for Irvine. According to the article below, the land lease expires 'early 2017' so the 2016 concert season will be the last at this venue. Also seems like there is nothing on the horizon for a new outdoor concert space in Orange County, so guess either LA is getting dates back or maybe Chula will get 2 nights.

This also displaces PSO, the Weenie Roast and all the other summer festivals that use the venue. Such a bummer to see Irvine close down.

Yeah, Irvine gonna Irvine. Seriously, the city and the Irvine Co. have systematically eliminated anything that might even indirectly lead to someone having a good time. Lion Safari, Wild Rivers, now Irvine Meadows. The so-called "Great Park" (seriously can we get another name for that? Like, literally anything else?) has been around for over a decade with a stupid hot air balloon to show for it. Wild Rivers was supposed to reopen there. Never happened. New amphitheater supposed to be built there. I'm sure it won't. The only thing that parcel exists for is to funnel money into the pockets of Irvine officials who will eventually turn the whole parcel over to developers to turn into cookie cutter houses. Sad.

I wish another town had the foresight to build another amphitheater. Maybe in east Orange out by Irvine Lake or something. Or maybe even build an amphitheater in Long Beach at El Dorado Park.
