The MLB Thread

aka Jeter's Farewell Tour

aka The Year A-Rod Shut The Hell Up & Finally Took What He Had Coming

Figured we could get this started about now. Just under a month until the (pointless?) official season opener with the Diamondbacks & Dodgers on the other side of the planet.

we make baseball history this year, a home plate collision rule officially being implemented in the book, though with one significant exception.

http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/10...ns-1-exception

and by the end of it we'll see if Mike Trout winds up signing a 5, 6, or even maybe 10 year (or more?) contract with the Angels, the latter of which will possibly become the largest deal in league history (yet still way, waaaaay less horrible than Ryan Howard's albatross).

If I was Trout I wouldnt sign for more than 5 years. That makes him a FA again at 26, which is toward the beginning end of baseball's prime.

yea from what I read earlier today, the Trout rumor is 6 years/$150M. I don't know why any player would want to sign a double digit years contract when that young.

oh god right, even if the Phillies miraculously got into the playoffs, the best news about this year would still be Selig's retirement

Re: The 2014 Major League Baseball Season

Really getting that itch this time of year for baseball to fire up. Sick of the winter and snow, sick of seeing my Knicks suck the big one, sick of all the Red Sox fans rubbing last year in my face. I'm excited for the Yankees this year as I think for the first time in a while, things legitimately could go either way for them. This new lineup is unproven together, which makes the games much more compelling in my eyes. If things work out, I can see them making the ALCS.

Dodgers should be a serious threat out West. Love Kershaw, that contract is huge but I think it's one of the few examples where such a contract is deserved. They've become my NL team since Donny Baseball took the reigns there, I think they were right to give him an extension.

I know the Twins aren't gonna tear it up this year Probably battle the Sux for last. But still excited as hell, one just cause it's baseball, and two to see how some of the signings and prospects play out.

He seems to want to edge in on the market of hitting the most HRs while maintaining the lowest batting average that the likes of Adam Dunn and Mark Reynolds have cornered so long.

Re: The 2014 Major League Baseball Season

Started getting back into baseball last year after about a 19 year absence. Even went to a AAA game. Still having trouble finding a team to root for. I used to be a huge Astros fan when I was a kid, but that club is in shambles. Never cared for the Rangers. The Cubs were my dads team, so there's some sentimentality attached to them. I'm drawn to the Red Sox mainly due to the Liverpool FC connection, but who isn't a Boston fan these days.

Thinking the best thing would be to get MLB.tv and hopefully a team will grow on me

Either way, I'm excited for the new season. Also excited to be getting back into a sport from my childhood.
