    I think he is a lot more happier now, isn't he? I mean, the album was created awhile ago, and the break up was quite a bit of time ago as well. I'm sure he isn't "perfect,' but many of these songs are "old" feelings

    He prob is happier. Hopefully... I just don't want to rehash his divorce with him by listening to this album, which he has clearly said is all about his divorce.

    npr is streaming it.

    First take: lukewarm. Reading the CoS review touting that this was the best album since Heartbreaker didn't help. The live clips I heard of Do You Still Love Me gave me the impression that this was gonna sound harder, more emotional. I was too hyped. This basically sounds like self-titled pt 2 except somehow less catchy. It has the same simplicity and "classic" inspired lyrics, but doesn't have the hooks that drove his self-titled. It's really missing the Cardinals musicianship here. Most of the songs are just begging for a cooler sounding intro, bridge, transition, or outro...most end up just sounding anticlimactic or generic. The songwriting has a lot of sincerity but is ultimately just "meh". Just the usual Ryan running with ideas and taking the easy way to get there.

    That said I'm sure I'll end up loving this album just like every single one of the others. Just not today. In either case it's DEFINITELY not even close to Heartbreaker, or even the top half of his albums for that matter.

    I like it a lot as well. I'd say it's definitely a grower, but there are some really incredible moments on there. Like the sax solo, which I'm pretty sure is a first for a DRA album, lol. The title track is amazing and 'shiver and shake' is very powerful.

    I've seen Ryan Adams perform several times since that album came out and I don't think I've ever seen him play any songs off it. He has several staples in his setlists, but he tends to mix it up between his last 3 or 4 albums mostly. He posts pictures of his setlists from all his shows on his Twitter feed, so you can check that to see what he's been playing lately.
