A Dream So Real - meh. whatever. can't believe they opened with this. this and Falling Off the Roof are songs in search of being a song. two absolutely wasted spots on DMB Live 25. i don't care how rare they are.
Pantala > Rapunzel - quality. nice, slower tempo. excellent jam that Butch improves. a reference Rapunzel.
Everyday - wah wah. i am increasingly impressed by the sound of this release.
Loving Wings - wow. another benchmark performance! LeRoi is great, the I Dream of Jeannie interpol is awesome. i loved LW when it first came out. but being a rather simple ditty, i became a little restless with it, hitting skip the past few years. this rekindles the love. addresses the Trump presidency at the start.
Song That Jane Likes - i never thought i'd say this about modern-day DMB, but this might be played a tick too SLOW! good, but not spectacular. TSJL needs a little more energy than was put into this performance.
Cornbread - slower. better.
Eh Hee - whatever.
Crush - fucking beautiful. are we sure this isn't a 1999 show?!?
Sister - whatever.
If I Had It All - absolutely gorgeous from start to finish. the Butch intro into Leroi gave me a creeper. the whole thing with the outro was shockingly good. i hadn't heard a version like this. wow. FAR better than the Folsom Field performance. definitely a (the?) highlight of the show.
Sweet Up and Down - i don't know... this song just keeps sliding down my like meter. just ends up being a lot of noise and Dave yelling incomprehensibly for no reason. interesting stop-time outro though.
Grey Street - not bad for a post-2002. the tempo is kept somewhat under control. standard.
Shotgun - our third soundboard Shotgun and it does not disappoint. pretty much all the 06 and 07 Shotguns were goddamn perfect. again, speed started to hurt the song in '09/'11/'12. it's almost as if they should stop hurrying thru the concert and just play the songs as they should be played. like this.
Dancing Nancies - for some reason, Boyd's a little soft on this one. as in volume. not sure what happened to the mix, he seemed to be nice and loud earlier in the show. it honestly is a let down. his solo is fantastic. but it sounds like he's standing behind the curtain.
SMTS>ASTB>TM - whatever. so tired of the SMTS/TM/WWYS trio.
Gravedigger - Dave solo. pretty standard.
Louisiana Bayou - been a while since i've given this song a spin. i enjoyed it. Dave's voice sounds good. when it's shot/scratchy, this song can be unbearable. crazy good jam. now i'm in the mood for some spicy Popeye's.
Ants Marching - fuck yea Ants! perfect closer as always. this is no exception.
wow, what a pleasant surprise. 2007 is never a year i go looking to listen to. this show changes that. great pick. i'd say in the overall ranking of Live Trax releases, this ranks somewhere around 15-20ish (out of 38 full-band shows). the great sound plays a part in that.
that's just me though... YMMV.
