Every year a buddy and I make a friendly bet that involves 4 individual player stats, loser pays for a night out drinking. For example they might be bets like will Rivera have an ERA under 2.00 (I think he went with the over on this for 8 years running and lost 7 damn times!), Will Pedroia hit 20 or more home runs, will Tanaka win 15 or more games, Will Lackey have an era under 4.00, etc, etc. He is a Sox fan so the tie breaker is which of our teams finishes higher in the standings.
Generally for hitting bets we do not use games but rather AB's - if a player does not have enough AB's to qualify for a batting title the bet is null and void. The one time I recall a bet being nixed was the year Youkilis was with the Yankees, we bet on how many walks he'd have but he got hurt so quick we had to cancel the bet and ended up tying that year because he had like 22 AB's.
