Summer Curtain 2014

I'd like to have a separate thread about the curtain to others who can't make certain shows.

5/16 - woodlands -Before the acoustic set, the curtain was up and when the band played and it removed/went away.

After the a-set it came back during break, the background of Grey Blue eyes played w graphics on curtain and then it stayed during all of the beginning of Set 2 w/BEF and Seek Up - the curtain was down and you could barely see the band members/set up of stage unless on monitors. Curtain had odd graphics but looked like guys were trying toremove it.

Was this purposely? Curtain no more after Seek Up but let you not see the band for two songs?

Let's track and see if they do this again for graphics or of it was a malfunction at Woodlands.

Anyone going to Dallas, please let us know - I found it quite annoying not being able to see the band, though the songs were great.

Maybe we can keep this running because the curtain lost its presence last summer.

I feel like they were planning on dropping it like the did early on the tour last year. When big eyed fish opened then it dropped right as lyrics started

Thought so too they dropped it before seven so I am thinking it was a malfunction.

Anyone who goes to Dallas tonight let us know

It dropped before bartender during the first set. But between the long break and the curtain showing for bef and seek up you didn't see the ban for a good hour?

It was on purpose per a friend who was on the rail (FB convo):

    ===
    Me
Oh and was that curtain supposed to stay up during big eyed fish and seek up or was that a malfunction?

    Her
    It was on purpose.
The expression on Dave's face behind the curtain was amazing.
    Bliss
There was a laser/video show in the curtain I guess?
    Couldn't see from rail.

    Me
Saw a video and not really....that's odd. Looked terrible from the side in the pav.....hope the rethink that.

    Her
They had weights on the curtain and the guys came out and removed them at the end of seek up
I doubt it will last... Like last years curtain drop...

    It definitely wasn't a malfunction.

The crew didn't touch it between BEF and Seek Up. After Seek Up, they all went up to it, removed the weights and away it went without issue, in seconds.

Pretty sure it wasn't a technical issue. As I understand the curtain was see through and intended to add some spectacle to the beginning of the electric set. I support it.

And to be clear, there are two curtains. A thick one you can't see through that was up before both sets, and a translucent one you can see through (depending on the lights and where you are). The opaque one was removed during the Grey Blue/An Another Thing bit and the translucent one was what was up during BEF and Seek Up.

To me this indicates the translucent curtain was intentional. I could be wrong, but it's an effect some other bands have utilized and i don't think they would have gone on with Seek Up without taking it down first had it been a malfunction.

They were projecting lights and images onto the the translucent one the whole time it was up. It was clearly up exactly as long as they intended it to be and used how they intended it to be used; IMO.

That whole intro thing with the curtain was awesome! I hope they continue to return from the set break using it. (whether or not the curtain goes down before or after the first song is another argument) I especially like the part starting at 5:45 http://youtu.be/Iwy38Y3Kiz0?t=5m44s

Seems kind of pointless to me. But I'm a minimalist when it comes to a live bands' theatricals.

Any news on a Dallas curtain? Did they play behind it again for any full songs?

No translucent curtain in Dallas. They put the thick silver one up and removed it before each set.

Any thoughts on why? Would they scrap that idea after just one night or is it more likely that there was some issue with the venue that prevented the translucent curtain's use?

Same. They should ditch the curtain real quick.

I seem to remember the curtain thing from a few years back - saw it happen in Charlotte where they tuned up their instruments and then the curtain dropped on the first note played.

Curtain drop or vacuum up on first loud part is fine. Curtain obscuring the band for two full (one long) songs is not.
