I view 2 night stands as total experiences. I don't know about anyone else, but I don't remember a lot of the shows I've been to in detail. I remember a lot of moments though. I'll definitely remember that Last Stop and Ants from last night, the Fool to Think extended outro and Halloween in 2012, Dreaming Tree and #40 in 2006, Robert Randolph on Bayou/Jam/WT in 05, etc....

Those aren't the only ones that stick with me, but even the "great shows" I don't have total recall on. Maybe N2 DC 2002. Just give me some moments, in 10 years I'm not going to care if they played You and Me or Dreamgirl.

I used to worry about all of the great shows I would see happening other places, but at this point I just hope I have a good time and get something to remember. Yes, the venues where there are multi night stands will statistically have better varied sets because enthusiasm is high and the band recognizes it and knows there is probably a higher percentage of diehards there. Some fans have this psychological need to feel important, and in some fucked up way getting a good/rare set validates some peoples show experience.

WPB and Gorge will be great weekends. I hope in a couple of years we all have more great shows to go to again.
this is perfect

I think at this point this is the majority and who's buying tickets (myself included)

Hell I even camped this weekend just for the whole experience/package.

The band is not really worth traveling for. That being said, DMB is still well worth seeing a few times a year's. The issue comes when you are so jaded that half their catalog is a -1(might I add that show flow is just dumb and an excuse for people to complain) for you. Sets will never be perfect, so why dwell on it.

This has been said before, but as upset as I was when the band announced they were taking next year off, it will be a good thing for everyone.

Yeah, if you go to SPAC/etc. The other shows aren't so much.

People around here are so jaded, myself included. But I can at least recognize that Seven, Jimi, Why I Am, YMDT etc get the crowd going much more than 97% of songs. It's just reality.

The reaction Last Stop got at Spac from 75% of the crowd tells you everything you need to know.

Fans react to those songs because they're familiar with them, and they're familiar with them because they're played so often. None of those songs you mentioned are radio hits. Corn Bread is a good example - it's never been released on a studio album but people know it and react well to it because it's been played/released on in-store live releases so many times. If people were exposed to songs like The Last Stop, JTR, and Sweet Up and Down in a live setting as much as they are to some of the Big Whiskey songs, the reactions would be just as strong.

Im surprised so many more people around me knew Pig more than Last Stop. Did anyone else notice this? They are both killer, but I would think if you knew Pig... then you would also know LS

Pig is an upbeat happy song, people gravitate to those much more, plus they have played it alot more over the past 15 years. Not surprising at all more people would know it than LS.

To me it seems alot of people know or own LT 6 @ Fenway and know songs from that, which would include Pig and Idea of You.

Wonder what the reaction to Eh Hee would be.

I wouldn't mind hearing it again but I wonder how many people would know it even though it had a music video

Zilla melts are the best kind of melts.

But seriously, if you get worked up over a band playing a rock concert, perhaps it's time to step away for a bit. There's something that needs to be dealt with when you get upset over different bands. It happens with DMB. It happens with Phish. There's literally nothing to ever get worked up over.

But seriously, if you get worked up over a band playing a rock concert, perhaps it's time to step away for a bit. There's something that needs to be dealt with when you get upset over different bands. It happens with DMB. It happens with Phish. There's literally nothing to ever get worked up over.
Made a pretty simple statement. Not melting at all. DMB didn't play many good shows this summer.

I don't understand how his reaction could possibly be a "melt", nor do I think it's absurd to think that paying for a fan club and tickets every year means that you would expect some kind of quality product in return.

If they were giving tickets away, then sure, but a half-assed fan club and a half-assed band continuing to charge premium prices while putting out a product that's not up to par, ESPECIALLY at one-off shows...I think he or anyone else is fully entitled to be annoyed.

The quality of product in return is them playing songs that they aren't fumbling the lines to (repeatedly) or missing notes. Being active on stage and interacting with fans...DMB puts on a great show to a lot of people. Not talking about song selection.

Quality in return is them playing 18-22 songs regardless of the songs correctly and on point

Quality of return is them playing 18-22 songs or so..correctly and on point. Sounding cohesive and together. Not how rare each song is..

If Tim was repeatedly coming in at the wrong time. Dave sounding horrible. Boyd being out of tune.

So the 2003 tour? Sans Tim. Boyd was horrifically out of tune that whole year and while the sets were unique it was muddled by the less than stellar performances.

I've actually liked the tour as a whole, June was rough but the beginning wasn't and they have been on a role since Syracuse. Also it's Hilly, take anything he says with a grain of salt.

Sets will never be perfect, so why dwell on it.
    I have very few -1s...

    If Only
    Mercy
    Seven
    SMLAM
    Spaceman
    You & Me
    Where Are You Going
    Jimi Thing
    Dreamgirl
    Hunger
    OOMH
    Smooth Rider
    Stolen Away
    YMDT
    Angel
    Mother Father
    Gravedigger
    Corn Bread
    Eh Hee
    Be Yourself
    Plastic Girl
    Can't Stop

...and most of those aren't played much (if at all), so it's a non-issue really. My bigger problem is the extreme repetition and so few plays of their best songs (see below).

The following songs have 6 or fewer plays: Typical, Graves, SMTS, Pig, Last Stop, BOWA, Too Much, Raven, Halloween, Say Goodbye, Recently, DIDO, Rhyme, LLD, Grace, Two Step (?!?!?!), Shotgun and Bartender.

Meanwhile, they haven't played 34, 40, Stone, Dreaming Tree, Spoon, JTR, SUAD, Crazy Easy or PFWYG at all.

I'd guess that the majority of those songs fall within most people's Top 25. That is no good.
