Don't like Ballad. But Jacksonville Skyline is actually really good.

Yeah, those aren't his best songs. If you didn't like "Come Pick Me Up", I don't think you'd like Heartbreaker very much. Try something from Gold, like "Answering Bell" or "Firecracker".

Yeah Jacksonville doesn't make me rage.
I can see myself strumming this song on my guitar...very chill.

I am totally in the minority but some of my favorite songs by him are off of 29.

    The Sadness
    Carolina Rain
    Strawberry Rain
    29

all amazing. But Heartbreaker is the best CD overall.

That's a very solid range of ryan adams tunes... if you liked nothing there it's probably not your thing. Each of those songs is from a seperate album (I'm going to guess you were savy enough to do it that way though, because it would be a strange coincidence).

I'm wondering if you think that there is at least some substance to the tunes though, and that it's more the voice you dont like? Cause I don't get how anyone can listen to Nightbirds or Nuclear....or just about any of those, and not think the songwriting was brilliant.

CUTiger41...Those discs have been in my player pretty regularly since you sent them. Thanks so much for them again.

I enjoy when this thread gets topped.

Last year was agony without a release from Ryan. Can't wait till Easy Tiger. I hear it leans sliiightly country, has excellent songwriting (but if you're familiar with the tunes on it, you knew that already), some major greatful dead influence, and maybe even a little bit of Marvin Gay. Ryan noted that he listened to a lot of hip hop while recording it so that his influences would be a bit more masked than usual.

Here is a very brief clip of the album cut of "Everybody Knows", I think it was ripped from a little promo for Easy Tiger during the Henry Rollins Show:

    http://download.yousendit.com/D3FCD8831A5AC999

That ought to get everyone pumped. If not, head to archive.org and find a live version of goodnight rose.

Gold = La Cienga Just Smiled (B side: The Fools We Are As Men)
    Demolition = Tennessee Sucks
Love Is Hell Part 1 = Avalanche
Love is Hell Part 2= Hotel Chelsea Nights (Close 2nd: English Girls Approximately)
Rock N Roll = So Alive
Cold Roses = Let It Ride (Probably his best written song)
Jacksonville City Nights = The Hardest Part
    29 = 29

YES! Favorite video on youtube. Has such a classic look to it. I'll upload Nuclear from Leno if I can later tonight.

Heartbreaker: Oh My Sweet Carolina (but i dont dig this album all that much)
    Gold: Touch, Feel and Lose
Demolition: Nuclear or Starting to Hurt
Rock N Roll: Drugs Not Working
Love Is Hell: Shadowlands and Afraid Not Scared
Cold Roses: Magnolia Mountain, How Do You Keep Love Alive
Jacksonville City Nights: The Hardest Part
    29: Nightbirds

And Demolition is not an absolute must, but if you really dig ryan adams and own everything else, you should get it. It's a collection of songs from several sessions. Some great, some less memorable. It makes for a pretty uneven album that flows a bit awkwardly, but its still good.

    Yes, simply for the following:

She Wants to Play A Game of Hearts
    Tennessee Sucks
    Dear Chicago
    Gimme A Sign
    Tomorrow
    Chin Up, Cheer Up
    Jesus (Don't Touch My Baby)

I honestly feel these tracks sum up Ryan pre-Cold Roses. Depressing, slow, rock, alt.country, folk, and bluesy. It's all there.

that touch feel and lose video is probably one of the best thing ever. cold roses, jcn, and 29 have got to be, imo, one of the best 3 releases in a row. very gd-ish, very country, very acoustic/piano. love him. i cant wait for easy tiger. GOODNITE ROSE is kicks all kinds of ass.
