First DMB show

Do you still remember yours?

Yeah, there's still DMB fans who haven't seen DMB live...bear with me.

As many know, DMB will be touring South Africa and for many it would be our first show.

Excuse the pun, but What Would You Say to someone who is going for their first DMB show?

I really hope the SA crowd is very responsive. Normally I'm the type of guy that just stands there and appreciate the music, but I'm not sure how I'm gonna react with my first DMB show. Not sure what setlist to expect either, but I don't mind Too Much (sorry, pun again) what they play, it will just be awesome seeing the guys live.

Sorry if this post is bit redundant and comes off as a bit of useless rambling, I just need a place to channel my excitement

Just go into the show with that attitude and don't let other douchebags (not sure wha the SA crowd will be like, cant be worse than here in the states)ruin your experience and you will have an excellent time at your first show.

Relax. If you've never seen them before, you'll have a great time - no matter the setlist. Even if you got this past year's VA Beach setlist, you'll still have a great experience because while I've seen Jimi Thing 20 times, this will be your first time seeing it performed.

If you're a hardcore fan, your addiction will be taken to a new level.

Yeah. don't chase any one song, just soak it all in. I still remember a lot of my first show and it was 18 years. Nancies simply blew me away live, I was astounded.

I remember my first show. I took a piss break during Smooth Rider and Dreamgirl

But like others said, enjoy it and don't expect a particular song.

    Re: First DMB show

I first saw them in 1998 and really only knew BTCS at that point and "Crash Into Me", it was right afterwards that I got much deeper into DMB.

If you're already deep into them where you'll know just about anything they could possibly play, you'll get way more out of the show than I did. My gf at the time 1/2 way into the show asked if we could leave after they play "Crash Into Me" (possibly why she wouldn't have made a good life partner, lol) and I kind of said "we'll see" - luckily they played it in the encore before Billies so I saw the whole show. I remember the show well and have the tape, but seeing that show again NOW, I'd get way more out of it!

Enjoy every song and every minute while they're there, that's my advice.

    Re: First DMB show

I remember my first show very well (2002). I was really into the Lillywhite Sessions at the time (it was the first DMB "album" I had ever had) and JTR was my first favorite song and is still my favorite song today. They didn't play JTR, but they [played a lot of other songs I really enjoyed and not too many radio heavy songs - What Would You Say and Crush were really the only two. I really wanted to hear JTR and continued to chase the song for a few years. I didnt end up hearing it until 2006. I wish I was heavy into the band like I am now and the day after the show. They played some gems - Raven, Captain, TSTJL, Cry Freedom, KKJ, You Never Know.

At the time of my first show, I didn't know the rarity of songs or the differenc ebetween a good set or bad set. I wish I had the will power to not look at the sets before seeing the band every summer so I went in with a fresh mind. However, I have learned to enjoy every show and find the high points of each show. Just be happy you are seeing the band. Enjoy the songs you enjoy, don't let popular opinion persuade you otherwise, and jam.

I remember my first show (7.3.03) very well and was blown away by the intensity of the jams during Billies and Rapunzel. Also was blown away by Boyd's outfit.

the biggest thing i remember about my first show was that i was wearing a shirt that only had a strap on one side with no bra other than the one built in and i felt like i was going to fall out when i was dancing around

other than that, it was a blast and the moment i was hooked

The first show I didnt know much about the band other than the Lillywhite Sessions, which I loved. after a year and really diving into the band, my second show was probably my favorite and still is to this day.

I agree with people suggest not to song chase. Just enjoy it for what it is and what the band chooses to play.

My first show was life changing as Nick said. It was like nothing I had previously experienced and it took my already steadily growing fandom and exponentially increased it. Just soak in the whole experience. I can't imagine the incredible energy level that Dave and the boys will have on stage in Dave's homeland. The crowd will be crazy too. Regardless of what's played just soak it in and enjoy it. DMB live is unlike anything else.
