Here in Arkansas, when they tried to pass RFRA, the Arkansas ACLU was a big part of helping to get it changed to a better/less discriminatory RFRA when it was signed by our governor.
In Fayetteville, when local groups were standing against their non-discrimination ordinance, the Arkansas ACLU was one of the major groups that stood up along with HRC and some of the other local LGBT groups in favor of non discrimination ordinances in small towns here in Arkansas.
When one teacher at Mills (a Little Rock school) showed Passion of the Christ and yelled at his students about liberals/blacks, the ACLU was one of the groups investigating it. They took a recording they found to our school district. (You can check out the handout he gave to his students -

When there was an assembly at a high school near my town on gang violence, the school only asked black students to come to it. The Arkansas ACLU was one of the major groups that stood up and spoke against it.
I cant speak for the ACLU in every state, but I can say that here in Arkansas, the Arkansas ACLU has been fighting right alongside us in issues of equality. Theyve been helping to bring attention to issues that may not get much attention.
