Gaucho [Intended Meaning]

If this has been started, I apologize, but I felt it was important to share.

I always wondered where this song got it's name. Only thing that matched up was the tone of the song, but after watching Vanishing of the Bees tonight I learned that a major pesticide that made its way into the US was called Gaucho and I think that's where Dave's head was at, in the vein of destroying our food supply by using these chemicals that were originally created to be used in bombs [killing, war, etc.]

Interesting--that's the first time I've heard of this.

At the time of the song's initial release, I was pretty convinced it was just one of those working-titles-that-stuck, and probably originated simply because of the vague mariachi-like quality of the horn parts.

But it could well have further meaning. Dave is a science junkie, he loves reading, and he might have come across this information you're relating here.

    The song is about politics:

    1) A Gaucho is to Argentina what a Cowboy is to USA (http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaucho).

    2) DMB came up with this song after they toured South America for the first time.

    3) Down here in South America, and specially Argentina, we've suffered for decades, the corruption and day light robbery by our politicians, and we the people have been very inefficient in ending with this corruption. We are part of the problem actually. But we still keep protesting and complaining about our situation. And this summarizes it pretty well:

"We gotta do much more than believe if we really wanna change things. We gotta do much more than believe if we wanna see the world change "
