Re: How do you cut your meat? (Knife EtiquetteC)

This is the weirdest thread lol. I was raised in Sweden so we eat with fork in left and knife in right. We never put either one down while eating unless we're taking a drink of water.

What I've heard and been told is Americans used to eat this way but they switched hands to annoy the British. Not sure what's true but I can say this... Fork in left and knife in right is the most efficient way of eating and the most etiquette if that even matters. No question.

People should just pick up a steak and rip it apart with their bare hands and scarf it down caveman style

Agreed. That's what people do with pizza and wings. Why is steak any different?

Actually there is question. Why couldn't someone do the same thing with opposite hands?

I ate my breakfast this morning. Cut the whole thing up, moshed it all together in one big lump and loved every bite. Fork not facing down, that's too savage.

You mean tines down? I think it's just basic ergonomics based on the shape of a fork.

This is actually how most of Europe eats, if I'm not mistaken. I know England does.

Like fuck it isn't. Tines down, with the curvature of the fork, means I can adequately stab into something. I want to get perpendicular penetration with the fork and cut parallel with the tines. How the fuck do you even do it tines up? I imagine it looks like some savage, thumbs up caveman shit? Might as well not even use utensils at that point...

yeah tines down is just the sensible way to hold the fork, I don't see how it's "pretentious" in any way.

It hurts so bad to agree with a fan of the shitty (I mostly hate them because they murder the Bears every year of my entire life) Packers, but he's sooooooo right.

Roger, how else should a fork be used besides with the tines pointing down... I don't understand what you're saying.

I can see how this is effective for the meat, but how would you eat those eggs with the fork turned tines-down? Do you turn it over to scoop?

Cut piece, eat piece. Don't fault people who do A at all, though.
