Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill will all return to the Star Wars galaxy, George Lucas told Bloomberg Businessweek.
The film series' original stars had hinted they would be up for reprising their roles in the outer-space adventure before, but Lucas made it seem as though at least a few members of the trio have already signed the dotted line. In fact, they may have boarded "Episode VII," as its known to the Star Wars faithful, before Disney plunked down over $4 billion to buy Lucasfilm last December.
"We had already signed Mark and Carrie and Harrison -- or we were pretty much in final stages of negotiation. So I called them to say, 'Look, this is what's going on,'" Lucas told Bloomberg Businessweek when asked about whether he kept the actors in the loop about the Disney acquisition.

Only if it's well received. It will definitely make a killing in any case, but what will set it over the top or not will be if people have repeat viewings and/or it gets the appeal of non-traditional fans.

I was just reading this article with Damon Lindelof talking about Star Trek and the attempt to keep big things from being spoiled in movies in this day and age, and it brought a question to mind:

If the original Star Wars trilogy were being made today, do you imagine they would've been able to keep the father secret from being spoiled in Empire? Well I mean, I'd really like to think they'd be smart enough to keep that moment out of the trailer, but alright even if it was left out, would they have been able to keep it hidden til the release?

I think so. Didn't the actor who played Vader say not even he knew that information?

The line spoken on set by David Prose (Vader) was, "No, Obi-Wan is your father." The actual line wasn't done until James Earl Jones did his ADR months later.

I'd expect they would have done the same thing now as they did then.

Actually, the line was "No, Obi-Wan KILLED you father". They told Mark Hamill that the line was going to be changed to "No, I am you father" in post production and for him to base his reaction on that line.

    Yay 4,000 posts!

    This is correct.

I'm sure the studio could keep it secret. They were big on keeping the ending to The Dark Knight Rises secret and they managed to do that. The real question is would social media be able to keep the secret once the movie released. I'm a few episodes behind on Walking Dead and refuse to go on Facebook until a couple days after it airs. Too many idiots ruin shows and movies on social media.

Why does someone feel so compelled to go on Facebook and exclaim "NOOOO "so and so" was my favorite character!!!"

Welp..guess that person died. So annoying.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015)

I think a reason I'm excited JJ Abrams is directing this is because he's the secret keeping master when it comes to movies. No one still has hardly any idea what Star Trek Into Darkness is ACTUALLY about. Super 8 was a huge mystery until it came out.

A lot of his movies have been shrouded in mystery before release, and if there's any surprising moments in the new Star Wars, I think he's the best man for the job of keeping them hush-hush, at least before release.

I hope its not just a "toon town" type thing but a whole 200 acres somewhere in California, actually just destroy Bakersfield and turn it into the new star wars land. Ill buy a season pass. ESPECIALLY if they build flight simulators for x-wings and tie fighters. hell yes. Star Wars: X-Wing vs Tie Fighter needs the full experience.

George Takei posted on his Facebook page that he has a role in the new Star Wars as a Jedi master, further blurring the Star Wars/Star Trek boundary. Also, the title is Star Wars: Galactic Empire.

    Filming begins early next year.

I wish that George Takei thing were real. JJ needs to make that happen.

Speaking of freezing characters in carbonite, this should've happened a long time ago.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015)

Hey, I wouldn't put it past JJ & Takei for it to happen, since he was the voice of Lok Durd in The Clone Wars, even if it was something of a cameo. Since R2D2 was in Trek, you've got to get Trek into Star Wars some how.
