Re: Progress updates - Stay on topic!

I have always thought the album would be out July/August time frame.

That gives us a single in Mid-may->>Mid June time frame.

An album announcement, single drop is likely for right around the start of the tour IMO.

Who's to say they didn't put in a big group effort? Plus time and a big group effor doesn't necessarily equal greatness. They spent a lot of time on Big Whiskey, which was a big group effort, and, while very good, that didn't exactly blow everyone's minds.

I posted this in the Today Show thread but wanted to here also. Look at the only open date for the Today Show concert series..which coincides with the rumored date. This goes perfect with an August release date.

It's only similar to Everyday because you want it to be. Dave and Glen wrote that album in 10 days together. The rest of the band hardly had any involvement in making the music.

This is simply different. The band had 2 years (between the mobile studio in 2010 to the lack of touring in 2011) to write music and give a demo to Lillywhite. They went into the studio and recorded the parts. Unlike with Big Whiskey where Cavallo said he and the rest of the band tried to help Dave come up with good lyrics, it sounds like it's just Steve, Dave and (I would think) Carter, working on the lyrics.

We don't really know the context of Stefan's comment about the lyrics. He could mean it literally had no lyrics, or he could mean it had blabber lyrics like Blackjack. Some songs could have had lyrics, while other did not.

i will suffer from burn out long before an august release. especially if management keeps pretending that nothing is happening until then.

Maybe I'm way off base here, and completely ignorant of the record making process... But aren't the lyrics the last thing to be laid down? Or don't artists come up with some lyrics and then retrofit/rearrange them to fit the track? I was always under the impression that the music came first and the lyrics came last. Maybe Dave was still working on lyrics when the music portion of the recording process was finished, and Stefan had already gone home.

Guys shit is about to get buck wild up in this bitch.

We will get some info around the start of the tour...likely will even get a single dropped around that time.

Then they will start to have all the promo's for the album going on, and new songs will be played over the first two months of the tour.

Then Aug 7th or 14th they drop the album and start the album promotion.

Then Oct-Dec the do an arena show run for the album a la BTCS in 1998.

Epic year is about to be epic.

I don't know if it's generally true, but I know that this has definitely been the case in the past where DMB is concerned. This absolutely happened with some songs on Crash—I specifically remember reading that the lyrics on Say Goodbye were the last thing to be finalized, with Dave and Lillywhite alone in the studio.

Just goes to show, the guy getting his panties all in a wad about this album being like Everyday needs to take a deep breath and relax.

you are correct in about the process. we are pretty confident that vocs were recorded not long before Lillywhite started this approx. 2 week final mix process we are in right now. Looks like he flew back to Fremont from Vegas specifically for vocs and final mixing.

this process has been NOTHING like everyday...do you know the tension, hard feelings, and strife going on between the band members during this time? don't watch anything that promotes everyday b/c it is all a lie,and does not portray how the band truly felt about it. besides Dave, no one else was happy with that album, the process, or anything else that went along with it.

this album seems to have everyone buzzing, excited, and extremely happy/proud about what went down during these sessions (and the writing of the songs that occurred during their "time off).

plus I believe there is someone who is somewhat involved in the making of this album by the not-so-well known name of STEVE FUCKING LILLYWHITE.

this is NOTHING like the Everyday sessions...

i really think part of the reason for the band's off-year was to take the time to come up with the songs for another tremendous album. whether it happened, i dont know.

Ok I am going to get on my horse here for a second. Things need to be cleared up when it comes to the whole recording process. Not to sound too pompous but I am a studio session musician and music has been my life for a bit. This doesn't apply to every band/recording but:

-With mixing almost done, mastering does not take up to 8 weeks.

    - They obviously wrote this album with a lot of care. They wrote and recorded in 2011 & 2012. Who knows how prepared they were when recording started. If you are seasoned and know your parts, then can get banged out pretty fast. What they did in the Fall/Winter of 2011 is unknown. There has been alot of time in between fall of 2010 (last show before Caravan) and now.

    - At this rate, the album could still very well be released towards the end of June/early July.

    - STEFAN LIKES TO SCREW WITH EVERYONE. LET'S WAIT UNTIL NEXT WEEK.
