In terms of what? They're a great live summer touring band, but as far as mainstream popularity and relevance go, they're not really on the radar anymore. They're not radio friendly which eliminates a whole segment of listeners, and their last decent album came out eight years ago.
U2, Chili Peppers, Radiohead, hell, even country bands like Rascal Flatts are more popular (however you want to define popular). Besides, bands is a limiting term. If you want to say biggest musical acts, which is a more accurate metric, then they're not even in the top 20 anymore. Maybe to you and me, but after the summer is done and the concerts are over, who besides the hardcore fans that have been around for more than decade pay attention to DMB?
So yeah, I think they'll get a RS cover because its their first new album in four years, one that has an interesting backstory and was completed after a member passed away. Its a good story and it should be a cover, but it's the "Americas biggest band" thing I took issue with.
