Nope, it's not. I do the ordering for all the doctors and lab techs, and post docs in the department, but if you want to keep track of what you've ordered, do it your effing self. I mean, I keep packing slips and order requests, but anything beyond that is their own wishes.
The PhD that asked me to do it just said "Katie, I have a meeting, and need to know what i ordered in th last month, could you make me a spreadsheet? thanks!" to which I said, "Sure, I'll get to it as soon as I can. Oh, and make sure you check the weather report this afternoon, cuz it'll be snowing in hell, too."
Edit: luckily, my boss was around when this PhD asked me to do it, and he (my boss) said, "Dude, she's not a frickin' secretary that is here to make your life better. She's the Administrator for the department. If you have a budget question or need a grant approval, you see her. Petty bullshit like her keeping track of your personal orders comes with when you become faculty here and get your own secretary. Katie's job is not 'departmental bitch'."
