Peter Gabrielīs Influence

I hear Peter Gabrielīs influence all over this album. Daveīs voice in fact at times sounds just like Peterīs. Even the music reminds me of Peter Gabriel (i.e. Down to Earth).
Overall, thatīs a good thing cause PG is great.

did you just watch the Fuse Doc?

I think Rob mentions Peter Grabriel - but I wouldn't have noticed it on my own.

    not sure I fully agree.

Interestingly, Lillywhite partially made his name as a PG producer.

Tim is a HUGE Gabriel fan. I never liked PG until he let me borrow a live DVD of his.

The other day I made this comment to my girlfriend while we were listening to BW in the car. She pointed out to me that I had said the same thing the night before while she was driving my drunk ass home--so I apparently agree when both sober and drunk.

I don't know if it is the production/tracking, or if I've just never noticed it before, but Dave's voice does sound a lot like PG on this album, especially on Why I Am.

You and Me has Peter Gabriel written all over it. It reminds me a lot of Solsbury Hill.

Lillywhite made a Gabriel reference when talking about DDTW.

Shake Me is DMB's Sledgehammer, IMO.

wait, so you're tim's nephew or something right? anyway, that's really cool how he brought his influences into the bands influences and i think sledgehammer worked out fantastically full band, not to mention the influence all over the records.

Last Tour, I wasn't looking at setlists before they stopped in tampa, so I had no idea what they were about to unleesh. And the bam, They just dropped the sledgehammer into the middle of the set and I was blown away. DMB had it nailed. You can tell he loved singing that song live. It is stuck in my memory as one of the greatest tour moments.

Dave is also a huge Peter fan, he actually said once that he's obsessed with him and that he might be his favorite artist.

Im also a huge Peter fan, was so happy that I got to hear Sledgehammer at the 5 concerts I went last year!

I think that is a Peter Gabriel vibe to this album, and I have read a few interviews that they mention it, specially Shake Me Like a Monkey.

my brother knows him, went over to his place at london a couple of month ago for lunch... beautiful house, and the guy is just very down to earth. I think I'm gonna ask my brother to pass a copy of BW to him, see what he thinks of it...

I think Shake Me Like a Monkey is very influenced by Peter Gabriel. Not only the overall instrument arrangement, but the double-tracked vocals, especially on the "yours, yours, yours, YEAAAAHHHH" part.

Dave's voice on the original recording of Don't Drink the Water from BTCS has been compared to Peter Gabriel ever since it came out. He does emulate him, intentionally or unintentionally rather often, i think.

Being a huge PG fan as well, I am surprised that no-one mentioned Squirm. This song sounds very much like the darker songs of Mr. Gabriel (for example Digging in the Dirt).

And that is the most remarkable: there are similarities on the whole spectrum of songs: from light and 'happy' (You and Me) to the 'darker' ones (Squirm).

Even the music video for FTWII "employs a bevy of stop-motion animation a la Peter Gabriel's 'Sledgehammer.'"

yeah PG is definitely all over this album.

it's awesome that Tim brought some of his influences into this album, because Tim has awesome taste mostly, Peter and Zeppelin. there's some Neil Young in there also.
