FLAC to iTunes

I've searched for an answer and not found much other than commercial programs or people advocating their own program. The last time I downloaded a show a few years ago, I used Trader's Little Helper to covert flac to wav, burned to CD, then imported to iTunes. With a car that allows my iPod to plug into my stereo, it seems silly to convert to wav, burn, then import. Anybody know of a program that will covert from flac to an itunes friendly format. It didn't appear from Trader's Litle Helper's FAQs that it does that.

Thanks,
Matt

    Hi Matt.
Switch Sound File Converter converts FLACs or SHNs (or many other file types) to iPod-friendly mp3 format.
    It's available free here:
    www.nch.com.au/switch/mp3.html
The free version works great, I've never seen fit to buy a license.

    I hope that helps!

www.converterlite.com also has a decent, free converter.
I've used it and it's almost, but not quite as good as, Switch.

Any Q's feel fee to ask.

I use "FinalTorrent" as a torrent client, another freebie that works great.
I think that covers it all.

maybe a silly question, but why would you burn a cd then import it to itunes?

iTunes will load wav files, and you can convert them to mp3 or whatever in iTunes. I'm not sure, but you may be able to load wav directly onto your ipod

you can also use Trader's Little Helper to convert wav to mp3

    Re: FLAC to iTunes

Mposey, he was talking "a few years back", perhaps the earlier versions of the programs (TLH & iTunes) ran differently then than they do now?
I have no experience with the "TLH" program.
As far as I know, iPods etc. only run "AAC" files (Apple's proprietary "mp3" format) so files imported in to iTunes,
whatever they are, get converted to .AAC before export from iTunes to an "iDevice".
Perhaps the OP made a tech mistake & just didn't know you could import .wav files straight in to iTunes, anything's possible.
NCH's "Switch" also allows conversion from FLAC or SHN to AAC files, should one wish.
I convert to mp3, drag into an iTunes folder and then let Apple's evil little gnomes convert the files if necessary.

I literally just used this for the first time today. You can convert FLAC to Apple Lossless, which is pretty much the same thing (it's fast too). Apple Lossless can be played on iTunes, iPod, iPhone, etc..

    Re: FLAC to iTunes

hey guys, what output do you chose when converting FLAC files?

    Apples Looseless
    AAC
    MPEG 4 High Efficiency AAC
    MPEG 4 Low Delay AAC

not sure what the difference here is.

im using that MAX for Mac program, and i think it might be working after having some initial problems.

    thanks for he help!

Apple Lossless or AAC for import to iTunes.
Apple Lossless is a much larger file, if your HD space on your computer or iDevice is limited then stick with AAC.

    Hiya!
You have Switch put the newly converted mp3s into a folder on your desktop.
Then make a new folder in iTunes, and simply select all, then drag and drop the new mp3s in to the new iTunes folder.
    Presto! Done!

    Re: FLAC to iTunes

So I have a quick Tech Question. I use DBPowerAmp and always convert my Flac files to Apple LossLess. Which then I import to my Itunes and load to my Iphone this process has worked like a charm, However today I converted the d&t2012-07-15.flac16 to Apple lossless and my Itunes wont accept it when I try to import. I did notice that after the conversion non of the Song names, Album titles show up on the file as it usually does after conversion. could this be the reason? the Mp4's play fine on itunes they just wont import.

    Thanks for looking

FLAC format with the competitive features of providing marvelous audio quality as well as much smaller file size is well received among audiophiles. However, though FLAC is open-source and royalty-free format, it is not a compatible audio format with iTunes and with all Apple devices.

In order to import FLAC to iTunes, a recommended solution is to convert FLAC to Apple friendly audio formats so that you can play FLAC with iTunes, iPad, the new iPad 3, iPhone and iPod, etc.

If you care the quality of the output audio, converting FLAC to Apple Lossless audio is recommended.

If you do not care about the quality of the music, you can convert FLAC to MP3, a versatile audio format across system and devices then import the converted FLAC files to iTunes.

Just google search Step by Step Guide on How to Import FLAC to iTunes

You will find a detailed guide on how to do that

This is a horrible user experience... I bought through Warehouse/musictoday and I get the FLAC files. And now I have to figure it out on my own for how to load them into iTunes?! Ugh...

if I knew it was going to be this much trouble, I would have bought from iTunes directly..

I've been looking for a conversion tool that will work with Mac OS Lion 10.7 since I upgraded. I was so upset that switch no longer worked! MAX seems to work just fine and has many more options than switch used to (or at least that I can remember). I've been so behind on d/l shows because of the OS upgrade. thanks so much for the tip!!!
