Re: GODZILLAc

I'm pretty sure Godzilla is supposed to be massive. Like, the size of something that could easily destroy a city like Tokyo or New York. He's supposed to be utterly TERRIFYING. The old Gozilla movies weren't really all that accurate because they were cheesy, though they are seen as classic, so no one will really criticize, they don't really portray Godzilla as terrifying as he's supposed to be.

I like how the trailer makes this look like a really scary movie. I hope it's something along the lines of the first two Alien movies; just a lot of suspense, a lot of surprises, and a lot of darkness/lack of lighting.

I mean, Godzilla's whole premise is that he's pissed off that humans have done terrible things like nuclear testing and wars...so he destroys their cities in a sort of revenge/lesson. He's supposed to be massive/almost unable to be beaten.

I don't know the actual size, but I do know that this is the largest he's ever been.

Also worth noting that there will be other "monsters" in this as well.

Yeah, just going off of the one sheet the helicopters are smaller than his back ridges. Looks like he's going to be enormous. Which I don't really have an opinion on either way.

I always assumed that the old movies didn't depict Godzilla's size accurately, because you can only make a model city so small when you have a human in a rubber suit. I think he's supposed to be a genetic/nuclear mutation of a dinosaur that was in frozen animation for 70 million years or something.

Based on that pic I posted, he was like 8 stories tall or so. New Godzilla is like 50 stories tall and destroys worlds.

    New Godzilla rules.

I don't think that's true -- look at model trains and Christmas villages and other weird miniature things people do.

To correct my previous post, according to the Godzilla Wikia (yes, there is one), the original era Godzilla was supposed to measure 50 meters tall, or 164 feet. As the films progressed they altered his size, but he never eclipsed 100 meters (i.e. shorter than 30 stories).

This one looks like's about three times as big as he's ever been, which is just awesome.

Ok, cool. I don't know much about Godzilla, so I just assumed the size was hindered by the technology at the time.

I agree, the massive size makes it so scary!

I'm not sure that was necessarily the goal. I think that one dude just happened to have fallen WAY too close to Godzilla. That guy is so dead.

the original Japanese film is not cheesy. It's more of the menacing Godzilla. The American cut with Raymond Burr in it makes it less menacing, but the original, in Japanese, is excellent.

I don't think I saw the original one, sadly. I'm thinking of the one where Godzilla fought that big bird-bug? Mothra? Uhhh????

I don't think that's accurate...if you look at the trailer he's clearly not taller than the buildings. Just a bit of artistic license is all, I'm afraid.

That movie is a steroid version of Godzilla for all the fanboys. The Matrix fighting was a bit much for me, but then again it wouldn't be Japanese without something awkwardly Western thrown in.

And Don fucking Frye. Also known to WWF fans as Dan "the beast" Severn.
