Re: The Killing (2011 AMC Series)

Are people actually sticking up for me?

Either way, let's stop taking up this thread with pointless stuff. Spoilers can be posted after the episode has aired. It has always been this way, and I will not spoiler something that has already aired. By that point, it is public knowledge. I come into this thread to discuss with other members, and it is foolish to keep clicking open spoilers.

To keep this thread on topic, has anyone seen the original series? How did the show keep going? I imagine this will all be resolved after one season right? And then they just focus on a new killing/murder or whatever? Or does the story keep evolving based off of season 1?

If you are browsing the thread for a show that you haven't watched yet, it's your own damn fault if you get spoiled for the episode that already aired.

Thoroughly enjoyed the first two hours of the series. This story is sticky as hell so far and the characters are amazing.

So I watched this again last night with the wifey, and noticed a couple interesting things:

    1. When Rosie's aunt asks Rosie's mother what the cops wanted, she replied "Ah, they just asked a bunch of stupid questions, as usual."

As usual? Something tells me Rosie has run away from home more than once.

    2. When Richmond was informed that Rosie's body was found in the trunk of one of his campaign cars, not only did he barely react, he looked as if he wasn't terribly surprised. I'm not sure what this means as every character on this show likely has secrets that will come spilling out of the next few months, but I can't imagine that was simply a failure of writing or acting. That reaction meant something.

agreed. i said something similar yesterday (not about the cop comment, but about rosie in general). i think there's some dirt on her that's going to be uncovered.

I watched the pilot last night, and I really liked it. I'll definitely give it a run and try it out for awhile.

I'm assuming the show will slowly reveal dark secrets about all the main characters. The detective with the weed is an example of everyone probably having a dark side.

But it was definitely well-acted & written. To be honest, I couldn't stick with Walking Dead because some of the acting & dialogue was just too stupid. But this & Mad Men are more my cup of tea.

Also, I REALLY need to start watching Breaking Bad.

i want to get into this, too. i watched the first few episodes of the first season, but didn't stick with it for some reason. according to a guy at work, starting this week, amc is going to be showing it from the beginning that will lead right into the new season. so i'll probably just dvr all of those.

So is this an ongoing series, or a mini series?

Im liking it so far, but am hoping that it doesnt drag out too long. Just seems like something is missing so far. Not sure what it is.

i think it's an ongoing series. i'm guessing they'll do something like the wire, where your main characters will stay the same each season, but they'll introduce a new crime/criminals. i don't think they'll drag this one murder out for 4-5 seasons. it won't work.

I thought that at first also, but then realized (as others have said in this thread) that he was just trying to get information out of the students. He told the main girl (forgot her name already ) he was gonna stay after and try to find more out. I may not have even been real weed. That one girl was acting like she was high to seem cool so they would party with him. There was also that scene when the girls were looking at him before that, and I think he noticed they liked him and he could probably pry some info out of them.

Yeah, I asked this on the last page, but it got lost in the pointless fighting. There is no way this would still be interesting for 4-5 seasons. It would get tiring after 2. This show is based off a Dutch show I think, so someone should check into that and see how they did it.

From what I can see, that Dutch series had 20 episodes, each covering 1 day of the investigation. The US version is mirroring the Dutch version. Same plot.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Killing_(TV_series)

After the 1st season, the case is solved and the 2nd season is a different case.

I was also unaware that Fox Television is making the US version.

The first season will likely end with the conclusion/solving of the Rosie Larsen case.

In the Dutch version, Season Two was a completely different killing, with the only returning cast member being that show's equivalent of Sarah Linden.

With shows like this, i just like to guess something off the wall early and keep that guess until i'm proven wrong in the series. It's just a good talking point for people I know that watch the show.

So my theory/guess for now is that the new cop is somehow behind the killing. He set up something with Richmond's opponent where the killing would look like it is Richmond's fault. The cop did this because he wanted to come into town and make a scene and be the hero, so he started a crime, making him look like a hero when he solves it.

I know, it's a wild theory but i'm not serious about it. Just an early pick and I'll stick with it since it's a good talking point with some of my friends.

If this remake is anything close to the orginal, then you guys are in for a treat. And yes, the first case is probably solved at the end of the first season - that's at least how it was done in the original. The second season was shorter (there were only half as many episodes) but still mindblowing. It dealt with soldiers returning from Afghanistan.

Then again, the US version is supposed to be different in some ways, so you'll never know. One reason why I will check this one out too.

By the way, the original show is from Denmark. The Scandinavians in general really do know how to write thrillers/crime stories (see Stieg Larsson etc.).

Very impressed with the first episode. I'll definitely be tuning in weekly.

My early season prediction: the mom has something to do with Rosie's death.
