I'm not sure if it was. The sound was pretty awesome. Really loved the movie though so I didn't mind too much. Enjoy!

Agreed. For regular movie watching its not worth it. But the audio was better and louder I think.

Saw it today, very pleased and very well done. I'm not a fan of remakes but they did a good job with this one.

And after the credits, nice touch.

I absolutely loved the movie. My only complaint doesn't even involve the movie itself, and it's sort of my own fault, but the Red Band trailer showed waaay too many of the main awesome moments. I was surprised at how much I actually wasn't genuinely surprised during the movie.

I feel like if I hadn't watched the trailer, the first three possessions specifically would have been 10x more insane. They were still awesome and totally cringe-worthy, but they just didn't have the same effect as they would have going in cold. The ending was quite exempt from this though, it was really really thrilling. I was glad about that at least.

Absolutely disgusting, gruesome and gory. That being said I loved it. Nice to see the original guys did this one and I think they absolutely did it justice.

I didn't catch the part of the trailer in the actual film that creeped me out when that Mia chick is peeking up out of the floor and is singing that creepy time to go to sleep song. I think it got cut from the final print of the film.

Haven't seen it yet (all my friends keep canceling on me, but going soon), but I already can't wait for the director's cut version to pop out that is just insanely awfully tragically grotesque.

Best horror remake? I think so, just got home from the theater and I loved it. It really did the original justice, didn't spoil the original for me either like some remakes have done. Well done can't wait to watch it again and hopefully a sequel.

    Re: Evil Dead (2013)

So thoughts in regards to sequels, posted a link in the previous page I think regarding interviews with Fede about the potential for sequels and it sounds like there are many in the works. I want to say they've all but confirmed a sequel to Evil Dead as well as one for Army of Darkness starring Bruce. Fede went on to say that the old and new Evil Dead worlds would collide in a sequel further in the future as well, or at least that is the plan.

I discussed this with some other people and have seen it in other reviews as well, but the fact that the Classic is sitting there by the cabin seemingly rotted away after a long time is a direct reference to say that everything that happened in the originals did happen in this story as well. This Evil Dead is taking place 30 years after the original movie. I think Ash showing up at the end of the movie wasn't just fan service and actually has some relevance to what will be seen in the future.

Yeah that's what kind of confused me, is this a remake or a sequel? IMO it works as both if that makes sense. The car being there was one thing that made it seem like a sequel.

Was talking to Zilla about this before, plenty of nods to the original in this one as well. Here's the list I've come up with thus far.

    Looking glass necklace
    Michigan State sweatshirt
    Clock
    The Classic
    Tape recording
    Chainsaw
    Shotgun
    Playing Cards
    Same opening camera angle

Probably some others I'm not thinking of.

Reading through that list, I wasn't even considering the obvious ones like the severed arm/hand and the cabin. Though I love that Fede decided to throw the Fake Shemps onto the credits. Didn't catch that when I saw it.

That list misses a few big ones, namely...

    - Playing cards on the table
    - The clock
    - One drawing in the new book is the original Evil Dead poster image

I'm just thrilled at how well it's being received. The reviews dropped big time on RT (not surprising for a horror movie) but the fans seem to love it.

Both, like an opposite Evil Dead II.

    Re: Evil Dead (2013)

Want to address some things about the movie. Things I loved and some others that I wish were done differently.

First thing I can think of is a both a love and a hate. Loved the face cutting scene. The moments where Eric is walking into the bathroom and all you hear is the prolonged sound of vigorous meat carving. That shit was awesome, one of the best moments in the movie. What bummed me out about it though was that her deadite character was dead only a few moments later, Would have wished that she was incapcited/maimed to some degree only to come back later and catch somebody off-guard.

Next, another gripe. What the hell happened to David's gf? She pulls the ol' deadite "I'm better now" shtick, lays in David's lap, and then she's never to be seen of again? I'm guessing her ultimate demise was victim of the editing room. Not a huge deal and its understandable that they'd want to keep the film tight, but it was glaring to me that it was missing. I can only hope that removal of the scene was in effort to reduce the rating down to R, in which case, we'll most likely see it on the Bluray.

Still very pleased with the movie regardless, but it was things like these that prevented it from being a perfect movie for me.

Yeah, the continuity thing with all the movies is a little weird, but it can still work.

If you lop off the very beginning and very end of Evil Dead II, it actually fits perfectly between The Evil Dead and Army of Darkness.

I kind of viewed this one as taking place 30 years after The Evil Dead, in the same cabin, and Ash's car just ended up there following his return at the end of Army of Darkness and has remained ever since.

I just assumed she died (or at least passed out) from her wounds, and any chance of her coming back as an armless deadite was axed when David blew up the cabin.

If that's the case, maybe my bigger issue was that the deadites in general just went down a little too easy. Bodily dismemberment to me means a body chopped into bits. I'm really reaching here in the end, these are not big problems with the movie and don't make the movie bad, just not to my own expectations.

Nah, that's fair. Part of me thinks it was just Alvarez's goal to make as "real" a possession movie as possible. For instance, we all love watching Ash's hand run around the floor and flip him off, but I don't think a sentient dismembered limb would have fit the tone of this one.

I hope the second one picks up right where this one leaves off and then gets a little nuts. I was thinking we see Mia walking down the road and a cop pulls up or something, takes her into a very small town, and the deadites start possessing everyone there and it becomes yet another insane bloodbath, leading into some ridiculous ending that opens the door to the mashup he discussed.

I just had a good idea. During this sequel or maybe at the end, she's fighting deadites in an S-Mart only to find Ash arrive by some means. Like my thought is he shows up through some time portal in S-Mart which lines up with how Army of Darkness 2 ends. Really would depend on how they planned on writing the story for AOD2, but it would be pretty sweet if those two stories (ED2 and AOD2) were meant to run parallel and combine into a single story line for ED3.

Which ending are yet going to go off of for AOD II? It'd have to be the S-Mart one, right?

I would assume so, but I wouldn't be surprised if they fudged up the continuity between the flicks to some extent. Didn't stop em with any of the previous movies. It really could be any number of ways they start from. I'm guessing they'd go for the theatrical release ending as they would have a lot more freedom in where they want to take the story.
