Re: What is your favorite airline?

Fly SW 90% of the time, hands down the best. I hate when I'm stuck with airtran

did my masters thesis on delta, for those of you that enjoy delta then god bless you. I would rather fly Wayfarer 515.

I'd say 95% of the time it's price and price alone. I always check bags, not matter how short my trip is, so I factor in the cost of checking bags. The remaining 5% is flight times.

I think it was Matthew who mentioned the SW CC, I also have one and I use it all the time. My Gorge flights this year are courtesy of my rewards points.

I liked Northwest before Delta bought them out (or merged, whatever...when one company takes another one's name, to me, that's a buyout, but I digress). I also liked Continental before United took over. I think the trend of mega mergers will either end unless someone lines the right pockets of those in power, or continue until we basically have maybe one to three major national airlines (which would be deja vu all over again). Justice is looking to block American/USAirways, claiming it'll be detrimental to competition...yet they let Delta, already the largest airline in the U.S. if not the world, acquire/merge with another large airline. Nobody ever said our government made sense.

those past mergers occurred in a different time.....the govt is claiming that those past mergers were approved in order to boost the industry in a time that the airline industry was in a major downward spiral ("ruinous competition") (majority were losing money). They claim that is not the case anymore.

I also think it has to do a lot with US Airways and their shady business practices.

    For one, they're cheap asses.

They charge for soda. Who charges for soda?

They have TVs on them, but they charge for it, even just the regular channels.

Then, the last flight I took, they spend half the flight peddling various wares up and down the aisle. It was really obnoxious.

If their prices were always around the $150 RT mark I mentioned, I wouldn't mind. Last flight I took with them though, was $130 one way. That's about how much I pay for one way flights on Jet Blue to San Francisco or Fort Lauderdale, and JB doesn't charge for their TV or their drinks, or your first checked bag.

They also board front to back. Wouldn't bother me that much if I could remember that they do it, but I don't fly them often enough to remember that little detail. So when I pick a seat toward the back thinking I'll be one of the first on, it backfires.

Flight crew I had last time didn't have a very good attitude. It wasn't a pleasant flight. I'm guessing either the airline is cheap with their wages, or they just get sick of hearing people complaining that they charge for everything. Idk.

Thank you. I don't remember them charging for soda but probably because I just had my headphones on the entire time and never asked for one. I agree on the TVs - you should be able to at least watch SOMETHING without paying. And I do hate the upcharge for the seating - having to choose between 'Economy' 'Classic' and whatever the 3rd one is. With economy you have to pay to check bags, and the fee makes it basically stupid not to upgrade to Classic to get the free bag.

And, if you book through a 3rd party site (Priceline, Expedia, etc.) then you automatically get stuck in Economy with no option to upgrade.

So now that I really think it through, you're right, they do kinda suck.

Price and price alone, for me. If the price is close on several, I next look for the departure and arrival time that best suits my travel needs.

AirTran Airways is an American low-cost airline headquartered in Dallas, Texas and is a subsidiary of Southwest Airlines, with which it is currently being integrated.

As I mentioned earlier, the best part about SW is the no change fees.

Even on trips that I'm sure I'm taking, I'll book on SW, then cancel and use the funds later if I find a cheaper flight on Jet Blue.

And I really love their customer service, both on the phone and on the plane. They hire great people, and I always enjoy interacting with the employees on SW flights. I can almost always score free booze on SW flights by chatting up the attendants.

So currently on Virgin. The flight left thirty minutes late. Everyone was offered beer or wine as an apology. Little things like that make a difference. This flight is full of drinks on the way to Vegas. Could have easily made about 500 at least on beer sales on a 45 minute flight. Instead made everyone happy. This airline gets it.

Does that apply for their "wanna get away fares" also maybe it's cause I am in the mid Atlantic but southwest is never cheap for me.

Is it worth saving the money, though? You can always ask to be moved. I had to do it on a hop from here to Orlando a couple of years back. I was sitting next to this guy who kept elbowing me hard. I act differently on a plane than I normally would. I tried to ask him nicely, and he pretended to be Russian (yeah, with the UCF shirt...nice try, DICK) and to speak poor English all while listening to his loud ass headphones so he couldn't understand me. The flight attendant seemed kind of put off and said they'd have to find someone willing to switch (it was a full flight); then after the seatbelt light turned off they switched me. They never even asked me why I wanted to switch other than "Is there something wrong with the seat?" I felt like being a smartass and saying, "Obviously." But I ever so slightly inclined my head toward the fake Russian headphone prick. I heard them asking him to turn down his headphones as I was switching seats.

    Yup.

The more expensive fares (Business etc..), you can get an actual refund. Wanna Get Away fares, you get SW credit for the entire amount.

I flew from JFK to LAS, they were awesome...the safety video was entertaining. I actually listened to most of it (didn't have much of a choice). It was nice to chat with other people in my group seat to seat and there was actually a group chat going on, wasn't active much...just what people were planning in Vegas and a few responses. The entertainment system is top notch...I alternated between a custom playlist and live TV, as well as the Google Maps GPS thing, which was a little glitchy but better than nothing. I bought a couple of drinks and they gave me like 2 extra cans of soda and some kind of sour dough pretzels free. Then I wanted water...again, no problem, even if it was like a 6 ounce bottle. And we checked into our hotel from the plane, we were supposed to be able to go directly to our rooms at said check-in time where we would be check in by an attendant, even though it went horribly, which wasn't Virgin's fault. Four and a half hours passed by pretty quickly between looking out for the scenery along the I-40 corridor and onboard entertainment.

One thing I certainly like about the GA policy on SW flights is that you can avoid the rather rotund individuals or fucking babies.

Wife and I typically travel together, and I make her sit middle because she's tiny, so I always try to find another smaller girl/non baby that's sitting window to post us up by.

I had a Jet Blue flight to Fort Lauderdale one year and the TV's weren't working. A flight attendant went to a news stand and bought up a handful of every paper in the joint and offered them up to the people on the flight. They were also very giving with the drinks (though, it was like 10am, so not many people took them up on it).

Like you said, little shit like that. They could have just apologized for the inconvenience and gone about their duties.

Another time with JetBlue, we got stuck in San Diego on the way to Vegas for like 3 hours due to fog. Nothing even remotely their fault, but they credited our account $50 each, without us even asking. I couldn't believe it.
