I really don't know. This is really the first time in my life where I don't know where I'm going or what I'm doing. It's just been a rough semester and my grades are a bit lower than normal. The overwhelming pressure to get As (because in pre-med, it's basically As or Fs), how cut throat some of the students are, makes the worst learning environment possible for me. I love school and I love to learn but I feel like I'm only doing this because I have too and not because I want to.The amount of pressure I put on myself is actually starting to drive me a little bit crazy.

That's alright. Lots of people feel that way.

I'd say do what you want to do, not what you HAVE to do. Especially if you're an undergrad.

I know this is a bad thing but I have waaaaaay to much pride to drop it right now. I'm also in a program that is supposed to put you right into the university's medical school so I don't want to throw that away yet.

I agree and this winter break will be a lot of re-evaluating.

Pride is valuable. Stick with that - especially if you'll make it right into the med school.

David, there is no shame in admitting that something is not for you. I was Pre-med too and after a while, I learned I wasn't cut out for it. If medicine means a lot to you, there are many other routes to take besides being a doctor. Being a PA is actually more benificial now ah-days because of the lack of malpractice insurance.

    real talk-

alli is spot on. i had a lot friends doing pre-med undergrad that ended up switching out before they graduated. most people do. if this is what you really want, then you can do it... the good things in life will never be easy. BUT if you don't see yourself happy doing this when it's all said and done, definitely weigh your other options. there are always other options. no use in wasting time and money slaving away for something that isn't what you want.

it sounds like you really like the health science field (hell yeah!). there are tons of other paths you can go. a lot if former pre-med kids i know decided to go into PA (like alli said) or PT. these careers also require less school than med school. the good news is that the pre-med requirements (bio, chem, etc) are usually requirements or pre-reqs for other health science programs. over break i would recommend doing a little research on other options and even shadowing someone with that profession

it took me a while to really know what path i wanted to do. it's a frustrating time but you'll figure it out

I still graduated with a BS in Health Science but I know I want to get my Masters in something and probably go back and get my RN as well. I love science and I love learning but I knew being a doctor wasn't going to work.

Don't let one rough semester discourage your career path, David. I would hate to see one small portion of your academic career dissuade you from doing something you really want to do. Finish the semester as strong as you can and then take time to think about whether or not it's what you really want over the winter.

Certainly don't just up and quit on your aspirations of becoming a doctor because of one tough stretch, though.

To play devil's advocate, it's not just one tough stretch, it's a tough race. It will have peaks and valleys but overall, it's tough. I took all of the same courses, and Med is just going to be harder. David, if you really want it, go for it. But to be cliche, the only easy day was yesterday.
Laura and Doug are working really hard, and you will have to keep up your hard work, David.
Either way, I'm sure your family will be proud of you!

Hey thanks for the advice guys it was good to vent a little bit last night. I'm not really the type to do that. And you're right Jordan. I just saw my organic grade from my last test and flew off the handle (class average was a 57). Just need to stop feeling sorry for myself and work a little harder.

Holy real life shit around here!

David, find a female med student, lick her ass while talking about all the medical aspects of it. Then have her blow you while she talks about what medically is happening. Then smoke a bowl and realize you're still in college.

Then start studying again on Monday.

There are a couple disagreements I have, but mostly this list is pretty damn solid.

Founders is always good. Currently drinking a Southern Tier Warlock, have had a brandy Old Fashioned, a Tom Collins, and a Rye whiskey old fashioned. Yum.

Bombay sapphire is amazing. 1.75L for $29? That's a good deal.
