Re: I Get Taylor Swift Now

I'm a fan of anyone like her...my friend saw her open for I think Brad Paisley, or maybe it was Tim McGraw. He lives right outside of Philadelphia, so, pretty much, he saw her at her home town show (she's from Reading, PA, I believe). Anywho, he told me that she got more of a standing o than whoever was the main act that night. Great story, real humble person (I don't think it's a gimmick at all), and I too think she is a great role model for teens. I really enjoy her music. Great to see a girl who was rejected by record companies stand through it all, keep plugging along, and now be one of the most popular acts in the country. Plus, her eyes are to DIE for. I melt

Taylor Swift's music is every bit as good as Adele's, it's just that she doesn't have as amazing of a voice. That's why I call Adele the adult version of Swifty.

yeah she definitely needs to work on that. i think it's more because she doesn't really know how else to react, she wants to look humble. it gets really old though... yes, people do in fact like you

I don't think Adele's music is ground-breaking or anything. Her lyrics essentially deal with the same subject, just they're a little more adult aimed.

I'll take t swift over Adele any day. Adele's music is melodramatic and her voice does nothing for me.

When you get down to it they are similar subjects, but Adele's music sounds genuine and not overly fucked with post-writing. Taylor Swift's music is genuine (OMG she writes her own music!) but is then squeezed through the major label machine to be more tolerable to more people. That makes all the difference, to me, because too much of the honesty is sucked out of it.

I really think Taylor Swift will make something absolutely fantastic when she's older but right now it's just more pop mediocrity. It's funny (and sad) to me how people like Joni Mitchell and Carly Simon and hell Dolly Parton existed and wrote plenty of amazing songs, and the top shelf female songwriter right now is Swift and so many people accept that.

Adele makes me want to stick toothpicks in my eyes. Word is she is going to take the next 4-5 years off I wish should we do us all a favor and take her life off.

Taylor Swift on the other hand is just the cutest thing in the world (thats not named Selena Gomez) who is extremely talented and deserves everything she has received. I saw her last summer in gillette stadium and she rocked it

Right, she is certainly talented. Justin Bieber is certainly talented, too. As are most pop stars to a degree. I just don't like that this sort of talent is deemed exceptional when if you compare them to legitimately brilliant musicians, they don't even come close.

I don't mean to sound like I'm trashing her since I've had like 3 fairly negative posts in the last page , I'm actually very apathetic to her and her music. It's just one of those things that irks me a tad.

She can sing, play guitar, and entertain better than a lot of other "pop" stars like Justin Beiber. It can all depend. I used to think JT didn't have talent. Clearly, I was wrong on that one.

To your point, I don't view her music on the same level as a song from BTCS or anything like that, but she's still talented.

To me, she seems very pleasant in nature and I think she's very attractive, which doesn't hurt her standing with me obviously.

Re: I Get Taylor Swift Now

I still don't get this girl. She reminds me of that one defendant on Law & Order, who claimed a mental defect defense that she was psychologically unable to accept getting older than 17. Taylor seems mentally stuck in the same place with her songs. She does realize that she's been old enough to buy a beer for two years now, right? If not, that's either kind of (read: really) strange (or just pathetic that her songwriting hasn't developed any level of emotional maturity), and if she does, than she's as disingenuous as I thought she was and is playacting for a bunch of tweens that essentially sign her paychecks, just as much as she play-acts shock at winning 27 awards in a row. Most people look at getting older, especially at that age, as something to look forward to (i.e., the awful teen years are over). Taylor seems like a child star refusing to believe she'll always have acting opportunities as the precocious trouble-making kid, even when she's in her late 30s. Just general impressions from me, anyways.

seriously?! I admire your taste in film and your quality movie reviews, but I don't agree with any of this at all.
