Talking Heads

Searched and couldn't find anything..Anyways, how many Talking Heads fans we got here on ants?

Remain in Light is one of my favorite albums and really changed the way I listen to music. Stop Making Sense is one of the best live albums ever too. I wish I had the movie though...

Let's hear it from some more fans.

    Re: Talking Heads

David Byrne is an egotistical douche, but the music he made with Talking Heads is pretty remarkable, at least what I've heard of them. I admit that I'm still learning about them. The late 70s American version of New Wave and art rock that they were a part of isn't something I've ever actively sought out. My main experience with them is because of Brian Eno, who is a goddamn genius, and was their producer for most of their career (fun fact: Steve Lillywhite did their last album before they split). His influence has a lot to say about most of the music they made, or at least, it does on the ones that I really dig--Remain in Light and My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts, which was a Byrne/Eno collaboration, rather than a Talking Heads record. Still a lot of exploring to do, but it's happening, slowly but surely. Still, David? Why you gotta treat Tina and Chris like something you dug out of your ear (oh, and that other guy whose name I don't remember)? Dude didn't even turn up for their Rock 'n Roll HOF induction. It was lame when Axl didn't do it, and it was lame 10 years earlier.

I take it back. David Byrne did play the HOF show when they were inducted, but all he could say was that they were miles apart, and that he wouldn't play with them again. Still a dick.

Well, sometimes a genius can be pretty tough to deal with. I don't like how he had acted sometimes, but it doesn't make me think less of their music.

They are easily the most influential band since the Beatles/Stones imo.

They created an entire new sound of music. Anything that has any electronic/new wave/fusion was influenced by these guys. They are one of the most important bands ever imo. Screw the imo, it's true.

To hear Chris and Tina (Talking Heads drummer and bassist, married to each other since 1976(!?!), who went on to form the Tom Tom Club, which you should really check out) speak about it, it was basically "David Byrne's a dickhead". i have no idea what his thoughts behind it were, or whether he was even behind the concept of a "Talking Heads break up" scenario, but my impression is that they were on a couple of different musical wavelengths. David wanted to do his thing, the others thought he was an asshole about how he went about it, and that was it.

Tina came out around that time and said David Byrne was "incapable of love"

He's a genius, let him do as he pleases.

Your son is the coolest person ever. I would buy him a beer if he wasn't a baby.

Yeah, he's a pretty cool kid. We were in a store one time, and The Beatles were playing on the overhead speaker. He looks at me and says " that's Hey Jude"

    Uhhhh, no?

David Byrne showed up AND PERFORMED for their Rock and Roll HOF induction.

Chris and Tina have always been massively jealous, and consistently treated David like a huge turd. Jerry Harriston and Byrne have worked together a few times since the band broke up, and remain friendly. Chris and Tina are the egotistical douches that couldn't handle the fact that they were incredibly unimportant as the band moved forward, and Byrne started filling the band with guest musicians that didn't suck.
