Booking a cabana at Venetian pool instead of Bare is floobish Vegas behavior.

    Re: Vegas: The do's / don'ts / suggestions

Ok, back reading now, I will give my quick Vegas Highlight list.

    Hotels:
-PH is a nice and perfectly located mid-range hotel if you have a room with a view. I was lucky enough to have a high up view of the fountains outside....maybe you have heard of them?
-For the more expensive hotels, it has to be Wynn for me. It was totally impressive and does everything slightly better than the rest of the hotels.
-For mid-range again Mandalay Bay is amazing. The rooms are very nice and not to crazy expensive, and the pools are the best in Vegas. Add in the aquarium and Mandalay Bay is one of the best deals in Vegas. Only issue is its location to the strip. It is on the strip, but it is at the far end. This means that taxis will come into play for you if you stay here.

    Gambling:
-depends on what you like. If you are new to gambling like I was, I would say Flamingo and PH where pretty good places to start. The dealers are very helpful in teaching you how to play the games and it is very causal. Avoid the more expensive hotels like Wynn or Bellagio to start off. The dealers have an edge to them that takes getting used to. They are also impatient with newer gamblers.

    Food:
-Way to many to give a good list, but I will give it a go.
-buffets are a must obviously. Of the ones I did: For breakfast Paris was my favorite. Bellagio is absolutely amazing as well, but I found that they were better for lunch. Also, Bellagio is better on the weekends where Paris is good all week. Avoid PH buffet as it is a lot of money for low quality food. Also, Wynn claims to have the best buffet in Vegas. I have never been, but it might be worth checking out.
-Breakfast non buffet: I would suggest Treasure Island. I had the best French Toast I have ever had their. The service was top-notch and fast.
-Dinner: Check out Shakes & Buns (I believe it is in Cosmo). Their burgers may be the best in Vegas and they have a great number of alcoholic shakes that are amazing and different (just avoid the captain crunch shake...all other are amazing). Also, for a quick bite, check out Pinks on the strip in front of PH. They are an awesome hotdog place.

    Clubs:
-As mentioned above ACT Nightclub was my favorite.
-TAO has an amazing atmosphere, but gets way to crowed and because it is the most popular club in Vegas has all type of people that show.
-Surrender between Wynn/Encore is also amazing.

    Bars:
-Vegas as several bars covering all the genres. However, go off the strip and check out the Double Down Saloon. It is an awesome dive bar that specializes in Bacon Martinis. Order yourself one and then wash it down with a glass of Ass Juice. Best bar in Vegas IMO...if it is your type of thing. Be warned, it draws a rougher crowed, but they are all friendly!

Walking the strip during the day:
-Things to do: Mandalay Bay's aquarium is fantastic. But if you are not close to Mandalay Bay and are walking, make sure plan for more than two hours to visit. The walk includes taking a tram from Excalibur. The tram is free, but you may wait for 10-15 minutes for it to arrive.
-The Ice Bar is also worth checking out to avoid the heat. Just remember that going from one extreme to the other can cause you to get a cold.
-There are a million tours you can do, but I would recommend going through your hotel if you plan on going to the Grand Canyon or Hover Dam. They are usually full day tours, but you can do helicopter tours that are 3-4 hours as well.

Hope this helps, I'll add on more if I remember. Also, I sadly have never done a show, so I couldn't comment.

Sports betting always bails out the rest of my gambling.

Made a bucket of cash betting college football in October.

Going for my third time, next month.
Has anyone ever stayed at The M? We gamble here at a Hollywood Casino which is owned by Penn National Gaming and they gave us a free three night stay out there because that's the only place they own out there. It's supposedly a 4 star and free is nice so I think I might stay there. I've only stayed at the Wynn/Encore before.

My only knock on Del Friscos is that you can get it anywhere. Never doubted the quality.

    Re: Vegas: The do's / don'ts / suggestions

my group of guys goes out to Vegas every year for the first weekend of March Madness. My first bit of advice is at some point in your life, you should go to Vegas for the first weekend of March Madness - it's a freaking blast! So much basketball, so many people yelling for games, the last few years they've tried to be a spring break spot so the pools are open and have deals (it can still be cool at night time, when we first started going the pools were usually closed)

We are way too old for clubs, so that's out for us. Instead we get blacked out drunk daily! We usually sit at Pai Gow Poker (with cards not dominos) - usually at NYNY. They have TV's by the tables so we can watch basketball (which we bet on) while playing a game (more gambling) that you can sit at for ever and lose very little. We usually can sit there for at least 12 hours (drinking heavily) and lose maybe $100. If you don't know Pai Gow, it doesn't matter, the dealer will tell you what to do! We will usually do side bets for even more gambling, which is always more fun

Make sure your party tips the waitress - only need $1 per drink but a full table would get her $6 per pass. after a few hours, if you always order another drink, she will just start bringing them without asking so you will never be without a drink. Usually the waitresses that stay around and they will remember us when we come back each year. Not sure if that's a sign of respect, or that we are freaking drunks....

    Don't forget to drink water.

If you plan on playing a while, always get a card. It will at least rack up free starbucks, free burger, etc.

for a quick snack the Sky High at the deli in NYNY can't be beat - so freaking good.

The Bellagio Buffet during the weekend is worth doing, bobby flay's place at CP is really nice, steak place at the Hardrock is pretty Nice when we did that a few years back, but like others have said, if I'm hammered, nothing beats a Fattburger - life changing....

I know the OP already went, but this can be good advice for others. Again, above all, go the first weekend of march madness!

We were just there a few weeks ago for a friend's b-day. I would suggest the French restaurant Mon Ami Gabi. We went there for breakfast all three days we were there and it was really good.

Do: stay up for the sunrise.

Don't: watch it on a walk back from a random Denny's 15 minutes from the strip.

Being eternally awake and asleep for 3-4 days was great. Stayed at New York, New York which was fun to walk through on the way to the pool and stop for a few hands of blackjack each time.

For your day drinking at the pool, you can save some change by buying one of those large 32oz plastic drinks for $20 or whatever, and then reload with liquor bottles from your room.

The pool at the Palms was like a fantasy world. Maybe it was the MTV event going on, but I've never seen a collection of hotter girls across the board in my life.

Give the giant Fat Burger a shot. At 6am.

Where are you staying? The Tuscany is pretty awesome. Off the strip, but not too far. VERY spacious rooms, two beds with a pull-out couch in most of them, and lots of floor space. The Signature at MGM is also pretty fucking rad. Stayed at one of the penthouse suites back in November for a night. $200 a night, but $100 in food/drink credit at many restaurants at MGM, and $40 for breakfast at the one of the breakfast bistros in the second tower. Really not that expensive if you use the credits, $60/night for a phenomenal room. Only downfall is it's location. You can walk through the MGM to get to the strip, but it's a bit of a hike especially considering you're way at the south end to begin with.

NY NY is probably my favorite casino, though I've never stayed there.

    Re: Vegas: The do's / don'ts / suggestions

Looking at the following, no order.

    Tropicana Las Vegas
    Treasure Island
    Stratosphere
    Excalibur
    Flamingo
    Harrah's
    The Linq
    Luxor
    Monte Carlo

Looking to stay on the Strip for $100 or a little over a night. Don't want to have to cab around, going with a friend and don't think she is into gambling much, neither am i because i don't have the funds typically. Probably going to putter around the strip by day and hopefully see a show or do something cool at night. Haven't looked super far into it yet.

I would love to have one really solid meal and see the Fountain show. I'm usually a pretty flexible traveller so whatever she is into, i'm sure we'll be doing.

Excalibur is pretty cool. Very standard rooms, nothing to set it apart, but the casino is nice and they have the tournament of the kings. I've never been to the TotK, but everybody I speak to that's been says is fantastic, which I can imagine.

Only experience I have with the Linq is a small little Irish casino on the first floor. Real cool place. only maybe a dozen tables but they have a bar and a small performance place that had a 90's cover band there when I was there in November. Was a real fucking cool place, even if you weren't gambling. Beer pong tournaments, pretty women, good games with good dealers, and not terribly expensive drinks.

If you have the money, I'd recommend going to the Marquee inside the cosmo. Was real fun, but drinks were expensive. $18 for a vodka/red bull, $36 for a double. No thanks.

Excalibur seemed pretty cool. Treasure Island has some crazy good reviews too for the price.
