Listening to old shows from October 2006 from that link posted in here before. Love that link. 2006 may have been the greatest year of all for the show. Listening to an episode where Richard Christy is in a contest with "feetus" which is the famous waxing contest. Never heard this segment before, just of it. In a few days from this episode is the Gary Roast. The bits for the football pool where Alice and Artie yell at each other and Elliott Offen and Stern fight for plug time makes me miss this period of the show. Good stuff. Riiigght!?

06-09 was incredible. Since then, every year got worse. I've listened to one show since June - last Monday after Eric passed.

not sure if this was brought up in here already, but I only just realized now, Eric died exactly one day after what was his 12th anniversary of his first call ever to the show. 9.19.02 is the first time he was ever on the air.

Robert Downey Jr. on tomorrow I'm guessing. He's doing Letterman. 60-90 minute interview I'm hoping. Artie Lange on Fallon tomorrow night. By the way, both Hilary Duff and Giada Delaurentis are both on together on that Watch What Happens show Wednesday.

so, I'm watching Artie's new CC stand up special that's brand new, called "The Stench Of Failure", he apparently did it just in the end of summer in Newark. First of all, it's friggin uncanny how much he looks EXACTLY like Joey Buttafuco right now. but, I guess I was nuts for automatically assuming this would be entirely new material from him. I'm not even a full 6 minutes in and he's already doing stuff that he talked about on Stern, which has gotta be what, like a good 3 years ago now? doing the joke of his trainer telling him to get a "runner's high" to replace the feeling of heroin.

btw, I've since finished watching that stand up special of Artie's. okay I swear like a good 70% of it was not new material, that he'd already talked about on Stern to some degree over the years. And, maybe someone would interpret this a different way, I don't know, but I didn't really feel like there was one single like REALLY BIG laugh out bit, where he totally just killed the audience on a certain punchline. plus there was plenty of just kind of middling applause/reaction here and there. Though of course, the whole place still gives him a standing ovation when it's done

stupid but serious question:

Listening to old stuff from 2006 and whenever Howard pitches to Jon Hein for a preview of the Wrap Up Show, he says "Jon you gotta remember to put on your mic." He's done this at least during 10 different shows that I can remember. I thought Hein really didn't have it on all those times but now I don't know. Is that a bit where Howard just mutes his mic as a running gag? Can't think Hein would keep forgetting all those times. Anyone else know what I'm talking about?

go to 2007 and pick the January 11th, 2007 show. At the 106:40 mark, Howard plays a phony phone call with some old guy and I can't explain it, but Artie just explodes into laughter for 3 minutes. Just hysterical. An old guy talking about love and lust with a panel.

I know this thread's been a lot slower lately, but I'm a little surprised this hasn't been posted about yet. I heard that when they come back from the holiday break, the show is from now on not going to start until 7am now. I know this is going into the final year of the second 5 year deal he signed, honestly I'd kind of taken it for granted that this was finally going to be the end of the show, which then makes it that much odder they'd suddenly make a major change like that. I mean even if he signs SOME other kind of contract after this, I gotta think there's just no way in hell it's gonna be a repeat of the schedule now. Something much shorter overall (and presumably for less money)

Listening to the best of 2014, they actually had some great guests this year and some really good interviews. I kind of just gave up on the show though, and just randomly listen to it now.

I cant stand Cumia so I cant compare the twos shows...if you like Artie, than buy it. I laughed out loud a bunch of times, something the Stern hasnt done for me in forever

No. There is no comedy left on the show. And anytime a comedian does come in, it's Howard trying to psycho-analyze them.
