My girlfriend of four years informed me a week ago she's fallen out of love with me, that she has feelings for someone else, and she's confused. My life's in chaos right now, but it goes on. I've been through this before...but never totally blindsided like this. I won't take you down the path I've been on this week...but it's obviously not been a sunny one.

A friend of me made me sign up for OKCupid. That's been kind of helpful for my psyche, answering all these stupid questions. I actually sent out two emails; haven't heard back, probably don't expect to. But, while I'm hoping my girlfriend finds what she wants over this time, and that it's me...I have to prepare myself for what I think is inevitable.

It's so damn hard to feel unwanted.

I may not be the most knowledgeable person on this subject, but shouldnt you be trying to win her back rather than signing up for online dating sites?

Right now, the only chance I have of winning her back is by moving out, which I'm doing next week...perhaps as early as Monday. I probably don't even have a shot to win her back. We said we'd try to work things out last Saturday, but it's painfully obvious that she isn't interested in that right now, and that it only causes her pain.

It's also painfully obvious that she really can't wait to see how things go with this new guy.

The dating site thing is more a distraction right now, a confidence-builder. Frankly, I have none of that at the moment. I'm rather devastated and incredibly disillusioned with life.

I'm pretty sure I'll find out in two weeks that we can't work things out. This is my read on the situation. I'm prepared, mentally and physically, to move on. Emotionally, I'll get there. But she can't wait to move past me, because whatever I did (she says there's no reason, and I've done nothing wrong), she doesn't want me in her life. Perhaps she will come to a realization that she does. I doubt it, though.

I noticed that when I attach something, it comes up with the 'page cannot be displayed' error, but when I go back into attachments, the thing that I attached is there.

Best advice I could give you after you move is to not talk to her for a while, give her the space. Then you will start to get over it and find some hot strange to hammer

Thanks. I've been through it before (divorced six years ago), but never caught completely off-guard this way. I plan to do that once I move...I have to move on, too.

I decided I'm not going to suspend my life waiting for her to figure things out. If my belief is that this is over (and I have a lot of evidence pointing to that), then I have to try to move on. And I don't grieve for long. There will be some sad nights, for sure. I intend on getting either LA Noire or The Show '11 to help pass some time (or join an OOTP league or something), commit myself to getting into better shape, writing more, and probably try to learn the guitar from a friend of mine. But I'm going to try to meet new people, too. So, we'll see how that goes.

That's the best advice I can give you. It's good that you've recognized a situation for what it is, and she might be being completely honest: You didn't actually do anything wrong. It could be that things were fine, and all of the sudden she met this new guy and had the "butterfly hopeful" feelings with him. The grass is always greener...

It sounds like you are keeping busy, and also keeping up with confidence builders, and that's a good thing. You'd be surprised how good it feels when that first girl starts showing interest, even if it's small and doesn't go anywhere.

Break off all contact once you move out, and definitely don't respond to "checking up on you" calls or texts. While she is checking up, she's also doing it for herself too. To get over you. Or, at the least, the contact you had every day with her.
