And while none of them will top a 'best of' list for the instrument they play, they are all capable instrumentalists; the rhythm section particularly. I think, like U2, their strength lies in their collective simplicity.
I hate when people use this as an argument for why a band/writer is good or not. IMO in order to make simplicity an art, you have to be able to create quality art before simplicity. Anyone can create minimalist art, but the ones that create quality minimalist art are the ones that were creating talented art before.

    I hope that made sense.

Why not? My only claim is that the two bands have similar strengths, not that Coldplay is as good or better than U2.

They're not my thing either. But there is no denying that they are a very good band. You should say "I don't like their music" instead of "They suck."

I'd take Coldplay over 80% of the bands out there today. Something doesn't have to have tons of layers and wacky computer sounds to be considred creative. They have a few genius songs that even us non-fans can appreciate.

I think it made sense. I think, though, your definition of simple is different to mine. I don't think minimalist is synonymous with simple, and i think that quality and simplicity can comfortably go hand in hand.

To me, a good song is a good song, regardless of the amount of chord changes, key changes, complexity of rhythm or quality of production.

Parachutes and Rush of Blood are great albums. But they lost their spark with X&Y. And comparitively, they aren't up to standards with the other big British rock acts. Though I'll give them props that they are probably the best thing played on mainstream radio.

I haven't heard much, but what I did hear sounded very Radiohead ripoff.

i saw them live earlier this year and thought they put on a pretty good show.
i understand some people calling them a radiohead ripoff, because of the guy's voice, but thats about it.
they're a lot heavier and their music isn't nearly as complex as radiohead's.

Muse are actually talented and have deviated away from "Radiohead Ripoffs".

Coldplay tries to "Radiohead Ripoffs" but they fail miserably.

Indeed. I was rockin out to Muse before alot of the bands I like today even exsisted.

Black Holes and Revelations is good, but not their best work by any stretch. Shame it took 10 years to get noticed.

They are two different genres completely.

I think Radiohead is a band that you have to connect with to enjoy. I don’t know many people who think they are just ok. They either love them or cannot get into them at all.

There is little doubt in my mind that you would have come with some kind of similar, albeit less sarcastic statement, had I not posted that second sentence.
