I think it was discussed in this thread before; the big difference between removing a floppy drive and moving to cd or cassette to cd or dvd to bluray etc is that there has always been a general shift to allow people to move over. IBM didn't just say "hey this cd-rom thing is the shit! No more computers with floppy drives anymore!" They waited until at least the vast majority of the industry had moved over. I.E. the vast majority of users are like you and probably don't use cd's anymore.
I have no problem moving tech forward, but as Matthew said, we already have BT and a lightning connector, this is just taking away a feature that many people use. Also curious as to whether or not the new dongle will be input and output or just output. Haven't heard either way. If it's output only, people that use the 3.5mm jack for microphone/instrument recording-type apps will be pissed.
