At 14, going into 9th grade it's all about safety in my book and staying out of trouble. He can have an exciting life when he grows up. For now, home by 11 and boring is fine with me.

Oh, okay gotcha.
I was 14 my entire Freshman year and my parents had no real issues with my staying out late for certain events and parties just as long as we were safe - aka had a designated driver.
Cannot speak about grade school dances, shit that was 25 years ago so I have no recollection of how late they ran.
Oh I know people can have exciting lives when they grow up. My only concern is that I know plenty of people who did absolutely nothing at all wrong all through HS, the as soon as they went to college they overcompensated and drank and did drugs all the damn time often racking up arrests for possession, DWI, fighting, etc, etc. For a lot of kids it is a good thing to get all that partying out of your system before you hit college, less of a 'holy shit, look how much fun I can have' factor IMO.
