to hop devil. I recently tried Golden Monkey and it is very difficult to get used to. The flavor is unlike anything I have ever had before. I cant even begin to describe it. If you want to try something really really different, I would recommend it, but it is very difficult to drink more than two

Pour Golden Monkey into a glass, lotta floaties in there. Weird stuff.

I tried to drink a 6 pack of it one time, and I was f'd and done by #5.

I just don't understand it. It's apricot-like crap. It's one of the worst fruity-type beers I've ever had!

Why do so many people rate this as their favorite beer?

Too foamy. I like to swish a beer around in my mouth. Duvel turns instantly to foam which blots out all flavor.

A good comparable step-up is Gulden Draak. It's not as foamy, and I think it tastes even better. Very cool bottle too.

Lol, maybe I have a bad memory on the foam front after that pic.

Your memory serves you well. It is a very foamy beer...they even have pouring instructions on the bottle .

I will try Gulden Draak next chance I get though. Belgian ale?

Hmm...I'm a bit of a chicken chili fiend as well. But I've never tried pairing spicy with beer. It really takes a hit to the subtler tastes. So complicated beers would be out. Anything hoppy would be out for me. Bold + Bold = bad combo.

I'd try something slightly sweet and very smooth. Maybe a malty beer could be good. Hmmm. The perfect beer in my 5 minutes of thinking yet untested IRL mind would be this German beer or something like it:

    Augustinerbrau Munchen Edelstoff
    http://www.beerme.com/graphics/brewery/0/164/3866.jpg

However, since that'll be difficult to find...something really smooth. Maybe Dos Equis. Original.

Eh, it's good. But come on now, a porter? It's definitely one of the better porters I've had, but eh. I should try it again. I'd recommend anyone though:

Mackeson's XXX Stout. It's the best Stout I've had bar none, and that includes all chocolate or other creative variations.

Damn good. Too bad I can't find it near me anymore. However, I'd say Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout just about makes up for it.

I talked to the Store Manager at DiCarlo's in Mundelein...and sadly....he says that they are going out of business. Either the brewery, or the wholesaler he was getting it from. I can't remember which. It was very disheartening news. Either way, I don't think we're going to be able to find it around here.

Damn...that is a shame. Really, there are not many really good milk/sweet stouts out there (Left Hand's sucks horribly), and that one was sold at such a great price.
