Re: Daves guitars and song predicting

daves new 12 string debuted at DC n2 on the riff and grey street. looks like its a rock bridge since rock bridge built the first 12 strings recently.

looks like the taylors are pretty much done.

Does Dave still play the Taylor that he had retreated a few years ago?

the 914 is retired.

the 714 made a brief appearance winter 2012. the 12 string seems dead now too. we'll see though.

It's getting more difficult to predict because he's using the natural color rockbridge more and more, and using the dark sunburst rockbridge less and less. In 2012 the natural wood guitar was used for Don't Drink and Crash Into Me. But now he has switched away from the dark sunburst i feel like

the taylor 12 strings I'm sure are still going to be used in backup or in non standard tunings. don't think he had two rock bridges made.

Daves guitars look so boring these days. I hate that he went from Taylor's to rockbridge. I miss the Taylor 12 string so much. The current rockbridge 12 looks a lot like the drop d rickbridge hard to tell them apart.

One of my favorite parts about going to shows is people thinking they know what songs are played on what guitars and being completely wrong.

The red electric guitar came out for Squirm a few weeks ago and someone was all "it's the Last Stop guitar!!!!"

on the other hand, its awesome when you can blow people's minds by guess right. at hershey '12, i guessed like half the show because i had seen the band 7 times already that tour, including camden which was just before hershey where they played most of the same songs. there were a couple people next to me who were dying to hear bartender, and i saw another guitar brought out towards the end of BEF and i told them they're getting their bartender. they were amazed. i guessed a couple others and by half way through the show they were asking me whats next before every song. i got like half the set right and they thought i had like some sort of mystical powers

You're exactly right. I saw the tour opener that year in Columbus, and there were tons of song debuts and rarities. As a matter of fact, I believe that it was one of the only times that he used a 12 string on some certain songs like Crash, etc--but I'm too lazy to look it up.

The 12 string was a big part of that sound.

I am wondering if anyone could provide an update to this thread?
Can anyone give a list of songs that Dave will play for each guitar?
I am not musically, inclined, but I can tell the difference between a 12 string and the guitar with the colorful strap he wears 😄 vs ann electric guitar songs? I know I am embarrassing in terms or my musical knowledge and am in nowhere near a category of most super fans, but I am trying to learn!
Anybody have a list?

Thanks any help.

I don't know all of them but I can start with some low-hanging fruit.

- Black and white guitar with orange accents is Why I am.
- Big guitar that looks like its made with concrete is Can't Stop.
- Regular-looking guitar with colorful strap is Don't Drink the Water, and I think sometimes Crush.
- Black electric guitar is usually Some Devil, What You Are, Louisiana Bayou.
- Tiny red guitar is Squirm, Sweet, Sister, Idea of You, and almost never Shotgun.

For songs using the more usual-looking acoustic guitars, someone else can chime in. There's at least two; a light-colored one and a dark-colored one.

Sweet is played on a ukulele. Sister is played on a raised B acoustic guitar.

The black guitar is a Jerry Jones Neptune baritone guitar which is tuned a fourth lower than standard tuning.

This is the Can’t Stop guitar (only song he plays on this):

This is the “small red guitar”:
