There is nothing wrong with those lyrics and the music sounded good for a first performance.

I'm very surprised at the sound given who produced the album. Was not expecting any mellow songs like this

Would love for you to expand on this. I think it's really strong lyrically. Tells a story in a different way.

Completely agree with this. Lyrics aren't great, but I really like it. Just needs some Boyd!

Lyrics are the strongest part of this song - the more listens, the more understanding. It all works.

did we listen to different songs? Please share this other new one

first dmb has always been a band with elements of prog and fusion, their drummer is a fusion drummer. If anything this song flows quite well...as for time signatures, dmb has never stayed the norm when it comes to time signatures...i think the lyrics are more simillar to his old lyrics than his new lyrics, we all like dave because of his metaphorical storytelling which is what we get here...this song is extremely tasty between dave's part, what stefan is doing, the subdued horn lines representative of what roi used to do...tim is barely audible on this song, o the horns again, quite melodic and roi-esque on this song...

    must be different songs

i'm beginning to believe some people on here will only say something negative with the current lineup no matter the actual quality of a song...and by no means am i saying this song is special but it certainly sounds like dmb 1.0

I agree. The delivery is very interesting, too. I love songs that have complex-ish time signatures going on. I like the themes of scientific/biological advancement ("look at us crawlin' out the mud" and traveling at the speed of light) contrasted with the "believers who would welcome the end of the world."

I miss lyrics that were dark like seek up and the stone. Black and blue bird sound like I'm taking a walk trough the flowers on a warm day.

One thing I've learned from this board. Enjoy what you enjoy. Don't argue with the negativity because it won't get you anywhere

The only gripe I have is that the articulation of the lyrics by Dave didn't seem to, the best word I can think of is "match", the beat of the song. The music itself is very good. As I mentioned earlier, I love the horns.

This board has this notion that Dave has become "stupid" - because he has written simpler lyrics as his life has become "simpler". No, sometimes you just want to tell your wife/son/daughter/mom/fuckbuddy that you love them.

And sometimes, you want to tell a really simple story in a really awesome way.

    That's this song.

I like it. It needs to be tightened up quite a bit, but the bones of a nice song are there. I actually like the lyrics, but the timing was a little off.

All in all, though, I'm stoked Dave is trying to be creative and it was great to hear his guitar again. Makes me a little more excited for the new album.

I LOVE the delivery during the Ashes, Stardust section of the song (I guess Chorus)

The versus are a bit wordy and the I got a job and It pays me part is a bit low in Dave's register.

But once again, love the Ashes, Stardust section.

As per Google: Betelgeuse to Earth is 642.5 light years. Canis Major is 4,892 light years.
