Re: black and blue bird

I think my problem with the new song is that there doesn't seem to be any cohesion between the lyrics and the music. It sounds like Dave is trying to be all "oh, here's another clever line I would like to deliver to you! And another one!" without letting the listener breathe for a second between ideas, as he does in much superior songs like Minarets or LIOG. The song was what, under 5 minutes long? And yet the lyrics, when transcribed, look like the first ten chapters of War and Peace or some shit.

6 minutes long and I thought it flowed nicely. It will definitely breathe as horn solos are added to it.

Well, they're on their 9,000,000th performance of Two Step and they can't get the pacing right on that either so I'm not holding out much hope for BnBB.

Eh - Blonde on Blonde and Blood on the Tracks are two of my favorite albums of all time - and both feature some of the most words every sung on a single album.

Pretty much agree with this except for the puking part

Music was GREAT. One of the earlry posts mentioned all the time sig stuff going on - definitely great to see them pushing themselves.

Lyrically i thought it was really weak. Reminded me of Spaceman - cool chill music with wayyyyy to many words jammed into each line. Just random words meandering. No cohesion.

But is very cohesive if you read the lyrics and think of the message behind them

Count me among the posters who sees the story and cohesion of the lyrics. Listened 4 times now. Definitely an enjoyable tune.

Well, I'm all set. Music is by far more important to me. As long as the lyrics aren't offensive, I'm fine.

I also like how the song is stretched out a bit. A lot of words, but also a lot of musical ideas (the anti-Stolen Away)

The guitar is fantastic in this. In a lot of parts - most noticeably 1:33 mark - I hear a lot of "Dressed In Black".

Yeah, he's probably all proud of himself. First time he's inserted an academic fact in a song after 25 years of songwriting. He'll probably divert every publicity interview on the new album to babble about his new interest in astronomy. Like, "hey Pink Floyd, don't you know there really isn't a dark side to the moon".

This song is definitely growing on me. I got a much better first impression of this song than I did with Mercy.

I'd bet that a studio version and album details will come by the end of next week.

This new song sounds nothing like mercy. What the fuck? I swear sometimes I'm in the show lost and we are all in different time zones and dual lives and shit. Have you heard mercy?
