I dig it. Not as much as I dig Black and Blue Bird, but I think it's fun. (from the awful audio recording we have as of now) Clearly it is the Shake Me/ Belly Belly of the new record. My only real issue is with the song title, which is nearly as cliche and contrived as "You and Me". But that aside I enjoy the soulful, Stevie Wonder-esque attitude of the song, and those hornlines are pretty sweet. Hoping for better quality audio soon.

It is admittedly difficult to comprehend how the same man wrote songs like The Stone, Warehouse, Seek Up, etc. and then a song called Be Yourself. We are talking here about different aesthetic universes.

One cannot simply ignore these lyrics, they are at least in some way a reflection of where Dave Matthews' head is at, artistically speaking. Black and Bluebird has some cringe-inducing lyrics in it too.

But I will not be too hasty to condemn. All artists go through rough patches.

Though if the band still has some self-awareness, they will scrap Be Yourself (the lyrics, at least) and pretend this never happened.

It's as profound as a sentimental 4th grader's poem.

I'm now realizing that I may have been living in denial because You & Me isn't any better.
