Android

Did a search and didn't find anything so I thought I'd create a thread for any discussion involving Android phones, apps, etc.

    Re: Android

I really should try it out, but I haven't. I use an iPhone and am more than satisfied with the hardware/operating system that it provides, thus I haven't tried out the android system. It's gotta be better than Blackberry's POS.

I'm sure the 4th gen iPhone and accompanying 4th gen software will raise the bar again.

I've really enjoyed my Android phone (Droid Eris). I'd probably switch to an iPhone if it eventually makes its way to Verizon but more so for convenience purposes (so I don't have to carry my phone and iPod).

You can't put music on your Droid?

Yeah but not to the same extent. I have 8 GB of memory for my phone and over 20 GB of music. Plus to double that to 16 GB, the memory card is about $100 (I believe).

That and I love the ease of an iPod and iTunes, etc.

I just got the HTC Incredible last week, and so far the phone lives up to it's name. I find it to better than the iphone in almost every area, and that takes something.

I don't have one, but my roommate does, and every time a commercial for it comes on and it says "can your phone...." he says "MY PHONE CAN!" every. single. time. And he thinks it's funny every time, and he's wrong. So wrong.

The moral of this story, is don't be a doucher about your phone.

    Me too.

You think the Incredible is incredible... wait until you get your hands on the EVO. It's the Incredible's big brother on steroids and just for good measure, throw in 4G speeds (4mbs down, 1 mbs up).

I really want one but fuck sprint for having the balls to require you to have an "everything" plan AND THEN CHARGING AND EXTRA 10 BUCKS A MONTH to use the evo.

I was kind of willing to go to everything though my 3 line bill would go from 95 after tax to approx. 130 before taxes. but to tack on an extra fee for the phone is ballsy.

way to ruin my enthusium for this phone.

Not ballsy at all. Compare it to the other plans for similar phones out there. Everything Data is $69.99, tack on the $10, comes to $79.99. To get the same deal through AT&T for the iPhone, and Verizon with the Incredible (450 minutes w/ unlimited txts, web, etc), is $89.99 a month, plus $199 for the phone.

Without a contract, the EVO is still pretty damn cheap at $450. Hell the Incredible is $529 without a contract. They are using the $10 a month fee to subsidize the cost of the phone and pay to roll out more 4G networks. I really don't know what you expect, but having that kind of power, and speed is gonna cost more (especially for smartphones) anywhere you go.

10 bucks a month is required even if you don't live in a 46 area

also, dan hesse publicly said that there would be no extra fee for 46 a little over a month ago.

combine those 2 things and, yes, it is ballsy.

Hesse also said publicly that it is cheaper to run 4G than 3G.

However, Sprint is/was a sinking ship. So if your company is losing customers and your plans are already $20 bucks cheaper than lesser equivalents (iPhone & Incredible), does it or does it not make business sense to charge an extra $10 as a "luxury tax" to not only take advantage of the far superior hardware, and, if available, 4G access? I find it more of a crime AT&T requires you to spend $30 a month for the life of your iPhone.

I am fanboy, and I will admit it, but the facts are there plan and simple. EVO even with the $10 "premium add-on" is still $10 bucks cheaper, than any smart phone on both Verizon & AT&T (if you add on unlimited text and, web usage).

Get the Incredible, especially since you're used to the virtual keys. I have the Motorola Droid and a friend has the Incredible. Both are amazing but I'd rather have the Incredible after spending time with both phones. Good stuff!

Also, for anyone who has a android based phone, what are some sweet apps that you have and would recommend.

I have Google Sky Map which, while just for fun, allows you to hold your phone up (or down which gets you to the other side of the planet) and shows you the map of constellations, planets, etc.

Because LA along with Kansas City, St. Louis, Salt Lake City, the core area of Washington, D.C. Boston, Cincy, Miami, Denver, Pittsburgh, New York, Cleveland, Minneapolis, San Francisco are the next cities to get 4G coverage, which is due to roll out by mid-summer. If my memory serves me correctly, Los Angeles is one of the first of that group to get rolled out.

What does Task Killer do? Shut down apps that you have open?
I use Mabilo for ringtones. Is there a better one out there?
