Re: The NBA Thread

well if you have literally the worst record, the lowest pick you can get is 4. that's a benefit if nothing else

Is there really a debate that if a team is tanking, that they shouldn't aim for the worse record in the NBA?

As a fan, yes, absolutely that's what you want. I think any GM with half a brain values winning some games and developing young talent. Especially when you have to do a bulk of your work in free agency.

The only thing separating the Bucks and the Kings is fans celebrating .500 records a month into the season.

You can't develop players while tanking?

Do you know how this whole conversation started? Serious question.

What is an easier sell to a free agent:

hey look we have some young guys, and trust me even though they aren't winning they TOTALLY can.

    or

hey look we have some young guys that are playing at a high enough level to win games, and that's without your help.

The season is only a month old? How did the Knicks lose 37 games in only a month?

Exactly. Just because it is only happened 3 out of the last 20x, doesn't change the fact that having the worse record gives you the best chance of getting the #1 pick, and guarantees a top 4 pick. I'm not even arguing the point that even teams that are tanking shouldn't try to win games, because I do, but if the ultimate goal is getting #1 pick, statistically you are most likely with the worse record.

Like the Heat, Cavs, Warriors, Suns and Clippers?

And being under the cap doesn't just mean you have money to spend on free agents. Wouldn't expect you to really understand the CBA though.

You have said nothing that I disagree with. For like the 5th time now, all I'm saying is you can get the 3rd pick and still walk away with the best player in the draft unless you are entering a draft that has a once-in-a-generation type of player. And history proves that time and time again.

I asked twice already and no one wants to do the legwork... how many times is the best player in a draft class the #1 player taken?

Shaq, Bosh, and LeBron are the only max guys who swapped teams in FA and won.

Who are the Knicks going to trade for the next James Haeden?

The #1 pick has higher average advanced metrics over #2 over history. This isn't even an argument.
