Re: The Home Theater Thread

random question

does anyone know of (purchased?) a full motion tv wall mount that has a bracket that allows for lag bolts 32 inches apart?

i'm going to hang tv...but i have stud right in middle of the wall...most mounts don't have lag bolt spot in middle, but out on each end
therefore i need one that can take a bolt 16 inches out from center

i can't imagine i'm the only one with this wall set up, but i'm having a hard time finding a mount that has the wide of a bolt pattern
they all seem to be 20-28 inches...

Just realized I put this question in the vinyl thread.

I want to mirror a tv so I can have two identical tvs that each would connect to my cable box. I have 1 hdmi out port that connects to my tv from my receiver.

Can I just buy an hdmi splitter for this? Has anyone ever done that?

I believe so, but I've never done it. From what I just read, it's recommended to get a powered splitter, not a passive one.

Yes, as others have said, you need a splitter. Don't get confused with a switch. Two different things.

Just drill your own holes where you need them. Purchase any mount you wish, and make a hole in the bracket where your wall stud is.

You'd probably have better luck at a dedicated audio forum. There are so many speaker brands out there. A few years ago, Epos used to have great bang for the buck bookshelf speakers, which I bought, but they raised their prices. They are a company located in the UK. I'm sure there are some other good brands out there that you won't find at Best Buy or wherever. You could also try dedicated audio stores around town. There are a lot that could help you out like Stereoland, HiFi Sound Electronics, Halsten Entertainment, and Needle Doctor among others.

Hey Everyone! I just moved in to a new house and there are built in speakers in 3 different rooms. The previous owners took all the audio equipment with them so I need help figuring out what I need to get to be able to hook everything up. I'm not looking to spend a lot (although I know recovers and amps aren't cheap). Basically all I want to be able to do is hook up my TV and be able to play music wirelessly throughout the house.

So far I know that I need a receiver but do I also need an amplifier? Are multi-room receivers a thing?

    Thanks for all your help!

Assuming all the wiring leads to some sort of central location, rather than each room having its own separate input area, you should be able to do that fairly easily.

Multi-zone receivers do exist. For what you are wanting to do, no need to go with separates; an AVR with multi-zone output should work just fine. Just google search or go into your local best-buy or hi-fi shop and shop around for a price you are comfortable with

If you want to hook up the speakers to your TV, you'll need a traditional receiver where you can hook up HDMI and such.

For speakers in other rooms to listen to music wirelessly, I STRONGLY recommend the Sonos Connect Amp:

    http://www.sonos.com/products/wirele...reo-components

I have 3 of those in my house for running in-ceiling speakers and they work awesome for both powering the speakers while giving you the ability to use the Sonos system to control it from your phone. You would need an Connect Amp for each room that you want to operate separately. If you have a traditional receiver in one room, then you could use a regular Sonos Connect instead and that will then treat those speakers as a separate room you can control wirelessly for music too.

Couldn't find a thread regarding outdoor projector so I figured this was close enough. I'm looking for a projector to watch football this Fall during tailgates instead of going the TV/satellite dish route. Does anyone have a good rec for an outdoor projector? Will stream the games from an iPhone/iPad.

Was there a specific thread just for new TVs or did I make that up? I'm in the market and want to make sure I'm asking in the right place.

    Hey guys, question please.

I found my dads old Bose center speaker and it has the older connections, where you slide the exposed copper speaker wire into the left and right connection ports....

Im guessing this can be connected to a new plasma tv with some kind of speaker cable that will go from the old to the new type of speaker ports?

    Any thoughts?

You probably need a A/V Receiver. Run your video/audio inputs to the receiver, run audio out using speaker wire from receiver to the speakers, run HDMI-out from receiver to your TVs HDMI input

I'd obviously like to just to TV to speaker though if there is a cable that would work.

Not sure your TV will properly balance this. I'm also assuming it is just two speakers?

There are better experts in this thread, but personally, I'd at least add a center channel speaker and a receiver. If you have a bit more cash I'd add a sub. I'm not sure if you can hook up those speakers straight to the TV, but if you can, I have to imagine it will sound meh and muddled. If you put it through a receiver it will sound better. If you add a center channel and receiver, it will sound much much better.

Ok, I guess I'll ask here. I'm in the market for a new 65-70 in TV. Are there certain specs that I should be paying better attention to than others such as refresh rate, etc.? Any brands markedly better than others?

If the speaker isn't a self-powered speaker (it's probably not), then the TV can't power it. A receiver with a built-in amplifier needs to power the speaker. TV's output audio signals to a receiver where the receiver processes it and amplifies it before sending the signal to the speakers.

I'm admittedly a Samsung fanboy but the Samsung SUHD TVs have the best picture I've ever seen. I bought the 8550 last year and it's glorious.

    .

Admittedly, that one might be a bit out of my price range. I should have specified that too. I'd like to say in the $1000 - $1500 range. I know that might limit my options. But, it looks like Vizio, LG, and Sony, all have various options within that range.

This. If you want a speaker without a receiver, you need to go the powered 2.1 or soundbar route.

The Vizio M or P series should suit that price range well.

Check out Rtings.com. Has pretty extensive reviews, including a whole section on 65" TVs under $1500.

Cool. Thanks. Based on what I've already read, that seems to be the concensus from places like CNet and PC Mag.

Glad to hear from fellow unbiased ants.

    EDIT: Been reading RTings too.
