why these kids would give up their good and broken in spikes and bats for these new Easton stuff just because they said so is baffling to me.

you're going to play the biggest tournament of your life, in new stiff spikes and a brand new bat? why not take a new stiff as a board glove too...?

Because they are contractually obligated to? I'm sure Easton and whatever other brands paid huge money to be the official equipment suppliers of the tournament and I'm sure they want their brand name shown as much as possible on the national television. Also, you're a 12 or 13 year old kid, who wouldn't accept high-end brand new equipment free of charge?

As a funny aside, the team from Africa (first team from Africa to ever be at the LLWS) found the cleats so uncomfortable that they practiced bare foot. I wonder what those kids were playing with back at home.

bats... i might use. but if someone tried to FORCE me into a brand new pair of spikes at the LLWS, i'd tell them to get fucked.

the fundamentals on the swings of this Chinese Taipei team are unbelievably good.

they all look like Albert Pujols with their take away/load.

"hi 12 y/o Justin, here are brand new bats, shoes and pretty much anything else you want free so you can play in the Little League World Series"

    12 y/o Justin "get fucked"

Yeah. I'm sure you would have said that.

    we did. all the time.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1995_Li...e_World_Series

matter of fact, in high school, TPX tried to persuade us to use the first Omaha bats before any other team in the nation (college or high school). They gave us all kinds of shit but the Omaha bats were out of the question, we wouldn't take them. we were #1 in the Nation (Baseball America and USA Today), and ESPN was doing a special on us that week following us around to classes, practice and games. TPX wanted the exposure i guess.

bottom line, we told them to get fucked. our Easton Reflex C-Core and Redline bats were broken in and honestly had a lot more pop. sponsorships and back door deals be damned. no one was going to tell us what to take to the batters box.

edit: this was obviously before the BBCOR rules. today, i guess it's not much of an issue... a bat is a bat, is a bat. but i'd still decline just for superstition sake.

actually... i do remember trying out a Demarini double wall that they sent to me in a game once. i was in a mini-slump, so i figured, why not? went back to the Easton the game after that though. the Demarini felt and sounded "cheap" and not "solid", if that makes sense...

i can see teams using all new bats, having everybody use equal equipment, but i would hate having to use new spikes. that is a comfort thing that takes time. using certain bats is a mental comfort, but if you are physically uncomfortable, then you're miserable and completely off your game.

not to mention, spikes take like twice as long to break in than regular shoes.

    Leggo Fairfield, CT!

Wish I had made it back in my day. Lost in the districts to a team that lost in the finals on Regionals. Pretty sure if my town didn't have 7 little leagues, we could have made it though. (We all made when we were 14)

i'm glad to see that Mexico did not whore themselves out to Easton.

ironic, because they probably made most of it.

edit: n/r. Easton's factory is in fact, in Mexico.

Pull your best pitcher up by 3 with the bases loaded and 1 out just to bring him back a day earlier? Texas deserves to lose this game.

    two days earlier.

i guess coach felt comfortable with it.

that said, he was actually getting pretty rattled. would rather pull him BEFORE he blows the game, rather than after.

and if Texas would have lost... they would be playing an elimination game tomorrow, without their ace.

    smart strategy to me.

but they won, and the ace can pitch next game.

It worked and they're in a good position now. There's so much damn strategy involved in using pitchers with the pitch count limits now.

no shit. also, the "everyone gets an at bat" rule.

one coach fucked his team and got a DQ loss a few years ago because he forgot a kid.

well, not that he really forgot him, i think he was gambling on putting that kid in a special spot in the lineup (not high priority), used a different kid for a PH situation, got three outs. ended up winning the game, but had to forfeit.

took some doing, but found an article about it:

    http://www.boston.com/sports/basebal...ds_in_forfeit/

that last inning was a shit fest.

they tried to let the other team tie the game up, so that they could go into extra innings and get the kid in the game.

but the other team refused to score, and ended the game with an intentional loss... just to get a forfeit and move to the championship game.

    what a clusterfuck.

There's not really a way around it though. The international regionals have to be done earlier to get passports and VISAs and all that crap.

Canada was about to run rule Mexico the first two innings, then it got awesome.

Mexico rallied and tied it up. then scumbag ESPN switched to the Texas/NJ game.

Canada won, but they didn't televise the last two innings.
