Re: The Gaslight Anthem

the fallon shows in february were absolutely amazing. in the acoustic setting, you can really see how great of a songwriter he is.

totally agreed about the winter jam ticket fiasco. that was absolutely ridiculous.

Saw them in Providence last night, awesome show. Great album spread and the performances were very energetic and on point. Definitely an improvement over the last show I saw in Boston in the fall. Nice to finally catch a few songs I hadn't seen from SoS and the EP.

Hey! I was there too! Awesome show and I agree it was better than the fall show.

Did I meet you in the coat check line?? Was talking to my friend about DMB and the kid behind us overheard and started talking to us.

So with the band being on indefinite hiatus, Brian Fallon announced yesterday that his first solo album, entitled Painkillers, will be produced by Butch Walker and released in early 2016. There is a mini tour in January under the label of "Brian Fallon & the Crowes" with Alex R., Ian Perkins, the bassist from M&TZ, and others. They'll be playing the new stuff along with Elsie songs. Looking forward to checking out the album and the tour

Ugh, that sucks. Does a leaked copy exist or anything? I know they did a few live shows but I thought there were studio recordings of an EP or something?

i hope so. just based on what fallon has done before - basically all TGA, elsie, molly, solo songs ("the blues mary"...holy crap) - hopefully its a no brainer this will be great. he hasnt failed us yet.....

although i wasnt blown away by the new songs he played at folk fest

God I love The Blues, Mary.

Also wasn't crazy about those two new songs, but not too worried. Like you said, his track record speaks for itself

Solo album "Painkillers" due March 11. Lead single "A Wonderful Life" is out now and is great imo, heavy E Street vibe and a bit more of an uplifting sound than most of Brian's stuff. Full band as well. Stoked to see my 3 favorite Molly & the Zombies tracks on the record. I'll be seeing him in January at Foxwoods, and March in Boston

    1. "A Wonderful Life"
    2. "Painkillers"
    3. "Among Other Foolish Things"
    4. "Smoke"
    5. "Steve McQueen"
    6. "Nobody Wins"
    7. "Rosemary"
    8. "Red Lights"
    9. "Long Drives"
    10. "Honey Magnolia"
    11. "Mojo Hand"
    12. "Open All Night"

    Re: The Gaslight Anthem

Saw Fallon in CT tonight. Really good show. Definitely weird seeing a show with so much material that was unknown to everybody but the crowd was wonderful (very respectful and into the new stuff) and the band put on a great show. They played the entire new album + the B aside Low Love, 5 THC songs, and Tin Pan Alley. Could've maybe gone for a couple more Crowes tunes but otherwise a great time. I think the album is going to be wonderful, the material was instantly memorable and in line with that sort of alt-country sound from MATZ. Definitely more upbeat and "full band" than I initially expected. Honey Magnolia and Steve McQueen are the only slow ballad type songs, with everything else being mid or up tempo. I'd recommend catching a show of you can.

Also worth noting that Long Drives was changed pretty significantly. The chorus and bridge are the same but the verses are brand new and the song is definitely in a different key than before. It caught me off guard, and while I can't say if it's a change I prefer over the original, it was still a good tune.

Thanks for the review. Really excited for Philly in March.

So no GLA tunes, just Crowes, Zombies & solo stuff?
