I wouldn't say True Grit was better than the original, hard to beat The Duke. I grew up watching John Wayne.

But, I so agree Jeff Bridges kicked ass in that role and it was pretty on par with the original, which happens with maybe 1% of remakes.

While True Grit might be John Wayne's best John Wayne impression, sentimentality does not trump quality filmmaking/acting.

Poltergeist - 2/13/15 - "They're here! One of the most terrifying horror movies of all time, Poltergeist, is making a comeback in July 2015 — but this time around, you might not have to cover your eyes as much because it's scored a PG-13 rating by the MPAA." (Source)

Friday the 13th - 11/13/15 - "Now we'd heard whispers that this version of Friday The 13th was not only going to be a total reboot that ignores the 2009 Marcus Nispel version, but that it was also going to be a found footage movie." (Source)

Day of the Dead - 2015 - "A remake of George Romero’s Day of the Dead was announced just a few months ago by Lati Grobman and Christa Campbell, who also produced the Texas Chainsaw Massacre reboot Texas Chainsaw 3D. Now Deadline reports that the producers have settled on a director for the project, Mark Tonderai (Hush) and are already putting together a production schedule." (Source)

Pet Cemetery - “We are being very respectful to the book,” he continued, “and we are not tying ourselves to anything in the first two films at all. We are [also] bringing in some fresh elements that speak to the spirit of the story that aren’t in either one.” (Source)

The Birds - "THR notes that in more recent talks for The Birds reboot, the studio said they want to focus on the original Daphne du Maurier short story rather than the Hitchcock film." (Source)

The Creature From The Black Lagoon - “We have great news. The Creature from the Black Lagoon remake has just become a green lit project at Universal Studios. The script has already been written (by Gary Ross, a relative of the original screenwriter for the original film) and a director –Brett Rattner– has been assigned to the project. We will keep you up to date on the details as they come in.” (Source)

Hellraiser - "What can I tell you about it? Well, it will not be a film awash with CGI. I remain as passionate about the power of practical make-up effects as I was when I wrote and directed the first HELLRAISER. Of course the best make-up in the world loses force if not inhabited by a first-rate actor. I told the Dimension team that in my opinion there could never be a Pinhead without Doug Bradley, and much to my delight Bob Weinstein agreed. So once the papers are signed , I will open a Lemarchand Configuration, dip my quill in its contents and start writing." (Source)

It's just hard to picture it. I think because we're so used to what Ghostbusters was, it's hard to picture such a big change. If this was the movie I had heard about first, I'm sure I would have a more open mind, but I can understand why I am kinda hesitant about jumping on board.

Star Wars? Ok. I see there being more there and they're even bringing back old cast members. But Indy? It's just too iconic a role to bring in a new face. I love the originals, and hey, I even thought Crystal Skull was fun, but just leave it alone! Reboots and sequels that take place 25 years later rarely meet anyone's hopes. If they wanted to do a Bond-like run on Indy they should have started it 30 years ago. Not this many years later. At this point no one can see anyone as Indiana Jones other than Ford.

Yeah and it's not like someone was like "I have this wonderful, creative, inspired idea for a new Indiana Jones movie that I just have to see made." It's just a stupid money grab

I've always thought a Point Break remake would be cool. They're remaking but it just kinda sounds shitty. I've never heard of any of the actors. McConaughey would've pulled off a great Bodhi (swayze). oh well. I've always looked at fast and furious as kind of a point break adjace

Re: Movie Reboot & Remake Discussion

Is there anyone else out there who is as big of a Chris Pratt fan that I am, yet absolutely does NOT want him to take over the role for an Indiana Jones reboot?

First of all, not that I even outright agree with this, but I know human nature when it comes to pop culture, and I already worry about the over-saturation factor. Particularly by the time this theoretical movie would even potentially come out. In terms of general attitude, the role of Peter Quill/Star-Lord is a bit too close of a cousin to Indy anyway (and gee, shocker, I'm already seeing chatter about having Pratt play a younger Han Solo for these SW spinoffs). This is to say nothing of the fact that I still want, and believe it can happen under the right circumstances, of another Indiana Jones film being made with Harrison Ford. What especially pisses me off is Spielberg has come out and admitted that he didn't have total faith in the story/script they were going with to make it a worthy film, but he was just almost practically blindly following George Lucas because Indy's his 'baby'.

so, I still want a Ford Indy movie, but even if you do wind up turning the clock back and starting the franchise a new with a younger actor, I think it's in fact essential you use a virtual unknown for the lead. Absolutely NOT an established star, be it Pratt, Bradley Cooper, Aaron Paul... whoever.

I think Pratt would do very well with the role. He's a fantastic actor and can handle the physical load of the role, as well. I think with a good script Pratt could do very well in this role.
