Wow, gorgeous pics. I'm mad at myself, I haven't found any time to get out and shoot anything.

Someday I'll go to Banff. The only photos I've shot in the last 2 months or so have been Vikings photos.

Banff, jasper, waterton and glacier are amazing...every picture looks amazing! Any suggestions for an amateur other than normal or b & w? Love me some b & w but there's gotta be some basic settings I'm missing mostly for nature. Glacier/bob marshal is one of the biggest most protected areas in America. Lots of hiking, wildlife and nature. Highly recommend! Any other national parks worth visiting?

Maybe I asked, but I will again for some of those more experienced photographers...what type of stuff do you like to shoot?

Any thoughts or suggestions you might have however basic...most of mine are travel related but I have no clue what I'm doing!

Take some pictures of wherever you are now or share some old ones! Very much like dig your guys shots and would love to see more! I'm 3 glasses of vino deep so tell me if I should stop posting some of my pics or give me some thoughts of how I can improve or change my basic pics!

    Positive critical always welcome!

I'm new to photography and love seeing your pictures...lets keep this thread going!

Cool man, would love to see some of yours if you ever get the chance to upload them! What were you doing there? My ex has most of my pictures so I'm slightly bitter haha! It was a last minute trip as our planned holiday to Tibet got scrapped at the last minute thanks to the Chinese government changing visa requirements. So we did some wwoofing and a short 3 day hike in the annapurna region...during the rainy season in July, so 3 days of rain, mud, leeches and stunning views which were rarely visible haha!

Loved nepal and would love to go back during a better time of year to do more hiking. Worst airport ever been to was definitely kathmandu! Find a few pics and post if you can!

Anyone else got any pictures...old ones, favourites, whatever...haven't back read this whole thread, maybe someone could post some of their favourites from in here!

Oh man, I forgot about the leeches. Every time we stopped I had to pull 10-20 of those little guys off my feet and ankles.

I was there is Sept/Oct of 2003 as a 'see the world' college graduation trip. Was there for about 6 weeks. Hung out in Kathmandu for a week, did a week of trekking in Annapurna region, spent a week down south in Chitwan national park and did a homestay with a family in their village for a few weeks.

I keep putting off scanning my prints, but I'll give it a go if I get some free time this week and post the album here.

Some really well shot images! And I'm not even a baseball fan. I really like your Instagram account shot with the b&w seats fading into the light.

Thanks for the compliment! I got inspired and made it through scanning about half my Nepal prints tonight. I'll see if I can tackle the other half tomorrow.

Also, you may have mentioned it somewhere else in this thread, but what equipment are you using for your professional quality sports photography?

This a good camera for someone getting into photography? I've always enjoyed taking pics but never invested in a camera. I know this isn't even that much, but is there a need to get a camera in the 1K range, as a starter?

there is no way i'd spend more than $200 on a P&S without owning an interchangeable lens camera first. you can pick up a cheap canon/nikon body < $300.

a (used) canon t5i and a solid 17-55mm f/2.8 will run you under a grand
i shoot canon, so i don't know the nikon equivalent

    as for this camera:

    - f/3.4-6.9 variable aperature will not give you anything good on the low light end, hand held. think f/2-2.8 as a minimum.
    - 4.3 to 151 mm is a HUGE zoom so your best aperature (f/3.4) is only going to be used at the wider focal lengths which is not practical, in my opinion.
    - this is probably a fine camera for about the town when you don't want to use your phone. in reality the sensor size of P&S is miniscule compared to DSLR/mirrorless.
    - it's an 11mm sensor, so multiply those ranges by 3.18 to get your effective focal lengths for full frame (~14mm to 480 mm)
    - it's essentially wide angle to super telephoto. in my opinion anything over 100mm is overkill for a general purpose lens unless you're on Safari where you'll need 100-400mm+

    dslr>mirrorless>>>>P&S>>phone

hopefully that isn't overly technical. PM me if you want.

there is no way i'd spend more than $200 on a P&S without owning an interchangeable lens camera first. you can pick up a cheap canon/nikon body < $300.

a (used) canon t5i and a solid 17-55mm f/2.8 will run you under a grand
i shoot canon, so i don't know the nikon equivalent

    as for this camera:

    - f/3.4-6.9 variable aperature will not give you anything good on the low light end, hand held. think f/2-2.8 as a minimum.
    - 4.3 to 151 mm is a HUGE zoom so your lower aperature (f/3.4) is only going to be used at the wider focal lengths which is not practical, in my opinion.
    - it's essentially wide angle to super telephoto. in my opnion anything over 150mm is overkill unless you're on Safari where you'll need 100-400mm+

    dslr>mirrorless>>>>>P&S>>phone

hopefully that isn't overly technical. PM me if you want.
Thanks so much John. I knew it probably wasn't anything much better than my phone.

    sooo, this? http://www.bestbuy.com/site/canon-eo...664&ksdevice=c

On P&S, I just saw a used RX100 MkIII in fantastic shape from craigslist for $350 OBO. I almost bought the damned thing out of principle. After talking to the guy for a few minutes, pretty sure it could have been had for $250-$300 and he had absolutely everything from the box to all the paperwork. Guy was trying to get tax money together.
